I cant think of a time in the game where you NEED the power grip off the top of my head, you can just morph ball jump to any ledge you need to get to. Might cause a little trouble during the escape parts of the game, but you should still be able to do it on easy, or with an emulator.

Anyway, am I not thinking of the place where you need it, or do speed runners just get it to make the game easier?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It is necessary to acquire the Power Grip because of a certain enemy that blocks the way into the Norfair shaft until you get it.

To answer your question regarding Power Grip (and also, really, Plasma Beam), I got a screenshot of just why you have to go all the way up through Crateria.

That guy is invincible and doesn't leave until you get PG.

Considering how it doesn't appear as a Power Suit upgrade again until the suit itself has changed (and then, it's not an upgrade, but just a capability afforded my the lighter suit), it occured to me that getting Power Grip, aside from its use throughout ZM's levels, is a training/normalization to the concept in preparation of the Zero Suit sequence.  After all, wouldn't you be a bit "whoa, what?" if, for the majority of the game, you can't grab onto stuff, and then, in holding the D-pad a certain way while approaching a ledge, you grab onto it?  Might throw a player off, and Fusion's already used it throughout that game, so why not bring it back for the main portion of the run?

You are at least 100th person who ask that. But you can,t skip power grip because tentacle in norfair disappear when you pick up power grip. There is at least 5 old topic about this.

how do you know that he/she couldn't find the old threads?  MASTER, you have to remember that not everyone (in fact, probably NO-ONE) is as good as you at this game.  When new people come in here for answers that they can't find, they're looking for people like YOU to help them, not berate them.
He's not berating them, he's just saying that it has been asked before and that it's a common question.
I totally disagree, but oh well.

Eh, I don't see it as berating, more as just semi-casually brining it up (airly flippant toward the matter, even?), but then again, inflection might be more subjective due to his non-optimal English.
One shall stand, one shall ball.

Search function. I just typed Power Grip and got plenty of answers.
I just see Master being condescending everytime anyone ever asks any question about ZM unless its super-advanced. Thats just my opinion, it wasnt intended to change the course of this topic.  If that makes me a biotch then oh well.

In fairness, the search function can be rather wonky. I'll copy a word straight from a post, search, and get no hits. *shrug*

Thats right you did. What do they do? Not what you did. They did the most logical thing to do, ask. Thier are no stupid question in this world. Expect maybe is that guy in the suit a girl?

Using the very obvious search function to find out if a topic has been made before is illogical now?

What I mean is that you don't just answer people's questions, you have to make comments similar to: 'Everyone already knows this!'  or,  'This is old!'  or,  'We already talked about this a long long time ago and the reason you weren't here is because you suck!'

That's all.

To be honest, I sometimes get the feeling you're reminding people that they're just not as experienced as most of us. In this specific case, you're right - it is actually a very common question. It's probably about as common as the discussion of early PB tanks.

And before anyone asks about that, let me remind you guys that the one in the room that has your ship also has PB blocks in front of it, and the one in Norfair under the lava uses the lava to disable IBJing, and the funneling ceiling doesn't let you climb up the sides. There also isn't any place nearby to speed boost, and no slopes you can recharge it on. I think you lose the shine once you touch the lava, also, but I'm not too sure. I believe every other PB tank requires PBs to get them.
I like Big Butts and I can not lie
About the Norfair PB tank: you can get a charge, you can even take it into the lava, but when you shinespark into a slope, you just end up going at normal speed without speed boosting

Ah, okay, thanks for clearing that up.

New people who come here for the first time aren't part of this hive mind that you people seem to share. If i didn't know any better, i'd be thinking nate is using 22 different accounts.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
New people should be capable of reading however, and rational thought. The search function would get results faster than posting a new topic, this place isn't that active.

True. What if someone wants to make a topic about it? I don't see a rule against asking questions.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
There's no rule that goes over this specifically, but I just consider it bad form to make a topic asking a question when the answer can be found very easily if one puts in the few seconds of effort necessary to find it.

I do feel it kinda ungh when someone takes up a few lines saying that they have already searched FAQs or threads and ask that you don't flame them, among other exposition.  Then it's both *groan* and *LOL* when their question has been covered somewhere on that site.
