I remember watching a show where they had this guy from the ghetto talking about how he would do things to go to jail because it was safer there and easier to survive than on the street. He had spent most of his adult life in prison.
That's probably more common than you think, especially with the recent mentality of prisons being like hotels. Hot meals, washing facilities, education, all laid on.
I thought the idea was punishment for their crimes? Treating them like they're at a 4* leisure complex doesn't seem to fit the bill. Where's the hard manual labour gone, for a start?
FORCED labor falls under cruel and unusual punishment, imo. Many prisoners are not healthy enough physically and emotionally for such labor to be considered anything but torture. There is plenty of work for those who volunteer to do it.
I don't think it should be a case of voluntary working. People with obvious health issues would be exempt, as they are with anything, but 90% of the prisoners are perfectly capable of working, and it'd benefit the community for them to be doing so. I once saw a documentary where one prison did this, and the prisoners were in such a basic, no-frills prison, that they were glad to get out to help, and the list of volunteers was huge. They wanted to get out to remove the monotony. I recall they were (during the documentary) painting curb blocks red / white, making them more visible.

It should be about rehabilitating prisoners so they can reenter society healthy and less inclined to commit crimes, not "rarrgh you make us mad, bad criminal!" I mean, it doesn't really work that way, but it should. A revenge based system serves no one.
I suppose it's impossible, but I guess an eye-for-an-eye system sounds best to me. Kill someone, then you should die. Steal from someone, then you must make restitution. Get high,....oh wait, that doesn't hurt anyone.
Hehe, yay you indeed. However, you'd be much better off heading toward MetroidConstruction, as hack content is rarely posted here, and most of the experienced hackers are regular posters over there. Either way, welcome.
I seem to have missed Festivus, but I am disappointed in myself for having neglected m2k2 recently....
I just (finally) got Other M, though, which has sent me into this neck of the internet again. Would anyone care to fill me in on any interesting/important/whatever sequence breaks that have been discovered since I was last here (mid-Septemberish - around the time losing your items was skipped in Prime 2).
It would also be nice if someone told me some major changes in taiga forum since I was last here.
