When it all comes down to it, was Metroid Prime: Echoes worth being made?
Thread title:
always move fast
yes.

while it might not have the sequence breakibility of prime1, there is still a steadily increasing amount.  even without sequence breaks, it is still quite enjoyible.
I didn't really like Fusion or Zero Mission, but even when a Metroid game is bad, it' still very good. The basic gameplay - exploring an alien enviroment to find simple upgrades, is something that's really hard to botch, in my opinion.

Edit: The way I said that made it sound like I didn't like Echoes - I thought it was amazing!
its looking set to be my game of the year... and it has been an amazing year for games!

i keep getting a sense of not knowing where the fuck i should be going. but prime 1 was the same first time around. metroid games have always been about geting better with each subsequent replay for me.
Thats odd, I swear I had yogert as an option for the poll.  :?

Why can't anyone on this forum spell "yogurt" right?! I swear I've seen it spelled with an "e" around fifty times!

Anyway, I picked a "delightful addition," because I thought even Fusion was a delightful addition (but not nearly as delightful as Echoes). It was definitely worth being made, and even with the (as of now) lack of Sequence Breaking, it is still a great, great game.
Armor Guardian
One question: How can this game be an abomonation and a delightful addition to the Metroid series at the same time?
PAGE BREAKER
Ready and willing.
I kinda had a similar topic. Oh well.

I know how. A great game in terms of gameplay, but no SB'ing.
What luck, there's french fry stuck in my beard.

Dude, it's Soupy.  I think he's exempt from the spelling rules.
So a Metroid game can only be exceptionally good if you can rub it in the game designers faces' that you can get an item out of sequence?  Don't get me wrong though, some of the stuff in Prime like getting the Plasma beam early gave me a sense of Pride in pulling off one of the hardest sequence breaking tricks to do(IMO).  But there would really be no point in this game to SB, you either need the beams/upgrades to get anywhere or it would take forever to fight bosses w/o them.  Alot of the SB tricks in Prime were due to the fact that developers overlooked things, like standing on a tiny stalactite in the Magmoor Caverns, or on part of a wall with small groove.  The fact that there is no way to SB just shows how much work was put into this game if things like that were taken out or fixed.
lol no way
Er, don't get me wrong, I agree that it's clear that tons of work was put into this game... but "mental barriers" and doors that can only be opened with super missiles/power bombs hardly shows that. I think they could've been more creative with their sb stoppers.

Sequence Breaking has been done in this game already.

Gravity Boost / Grapple before Boost Ball and Seekers, Torvus done without Seekers completely, and the Dark Suit has been skipped while getting the Light Suit with only 2 temples beaten.

Not really. I like when a Metroid game can be broken simply because it allows the game to be played in really any way possible. It lets the player be creative, which is something most games lack. I'm currently attending college with a major in game design, and I'm working on the design team for game. When it's released, I hope that players can find ways to have fun with it that I never thought possible.

Plz fix your sig, Serujisu.  It needs to be 500 x 150..for the 3rd time. -_-
Oops... sorry. I didn't see any of the other posts about it. It was 432 x 154, so I won't have to change much.

This game is worth being made, I liked it , although some of the development was slacked off.
Agreed, the level design wasn't quite as good as Prime. Some of the keys had me lost for hours... It was an innovative approach to the series, though. As disapointed as I was at certain points that were drastic changes from the rest of the series, I realize that it was Retro's attempt to try something new (i.e. not another romp through Zebes collecting the same items again, which wouldn't have been that bad...).
sorry my post sounded harsh.  But i was kinda happy that you had to go through the entire world to get through the game.  It made exploring it worthwhile to me at least.  But the fact that they put up the doors for a simple way to solve the SB is kinda lame.  I admit i like sequence breaking, but I am kinda glad that so far there isn't anything too substantial, like standing on a groove in a wall to get to a door that you would normally get into half way through the game to get an energy tank or early beam weapon.  After i got the plasma beam early, i was finished with the first prime, it was kinda of a game killer for me, to get the most powerful weapon so early, and not having to work for it the regular way felt kinda lame.  At least in Super Metroid to get the Plasma you still had to beat Draygon.  But if ways are found to sequence break, i'll still try it cuz im a Metroid Junkie =)

You say that like it's a bad thing. There's nothing wrong with SB'ing, it's a big part of what the Metroid series is about.
Echoes was an awesome game, second only to Prime for Metroids IMO.
