Whenever I try to view some of the vids posted here, I get a window that says:

Quicktime is missing software required to perform this operation.  Unfortunately, it is not available on the QuickTime server.

I don't know what to do about this, can anyone help?

red chamber dream
Moved to the Metroid 2002 section of the forum. Also, try to include a description of the topic in your topic title, such as "I'm having site difficulties" or something. If you state in the topic title that you're having a problem, you'll most definitely get more views.

You're probably trying to view the h.264 videos.

If you're running Windows XP, just update Quicktime. Windows 2000... may work as well. I don't know for sure. If Quicktime updates to at least version 7 (I think), it's a success.

Macs should also update Quicktime, but there I don't know specifics about versions.

If you're running Windows 95, 98, or ME, then you'll have to download and install VLC, and then manually download the videos and play them in VLC.

EDIT: Hmm, Quicktime is smart tagged? Is that really nessecary? It's much more common than anything else we have in there...
clearly it's not common enough.

everything yoshi said was right, but the information about versions applies to macs as well.
If you have a Mac, it'll bug you when it's time to update…anything.  QuickTime will open Software Update and show you what it's going to install.  Chances are, if you have a Mac, you won't need to update (because you already did).
quicktime seems to be really bad about checking for its updates. why does it even have a self-update function if software update is going to do it for it? does the redundancy suggest that apple really really wants you to keep quicktime up to date or something, perhaps because of the drm involved? :P
Well I downloaded the new QuickTime7.0 (Free Version) but it still doesn't work.  It just sends me to this page.

I also want to view videos in the SDA.

By versions I was talking about versions of Mac OS, not QuickTime.
maybe try uninstalling and reinstalling quicktime. also try in different browsers (ie and firefox being the main ones).

as for mac os versions, quicktime 7 works in 10.3 and 10.4.
...  Still not working.  I've already un/install Quicktime once.  I have Windows XP home edition, if you guys need to know.  And I have the latest Quicktime in my computer.  This sucks.  I've tried browsing the site on a different server too.

When I uninstalled Quicktime, I was able to watch the vids from SDA in the Windows media player but I wasn't able to view the shortcuts that are posted in the M2002 site.  If I installed Quicktime again, it'll let view vids in M2002, but not see anything in the SDA.
If you want the full benefits of QuickTime, you should use QuickTime Player, not WMP.  That's the problem of keeping two competing media players on your computer…

Personally, I got fed up with WMP on my computer (especially when some mp3s started opening with it).  I'd already had some issues with the preferences not having the options I wanted (I prefer that streaming vids be downloaded in full, no matter what the size, before playing, since the buffer always runs out at annoying times…)  Flip4Mac WMV plugin rescued me from that, and it uses QuickTime preferences for most things as well.  The only thing I don't like about it is that when you open a WMV from the internet, it still opens the separate player app instead of using the WMV plugin in the browser…

...because you can't use both?
You can, but they're like old System 7-9 extension conflicts: when both of them try to modify the same part of the system, they cause a crash, or just issues with working.  Both WMP and QuickTime try to be the media player on your system, so they naturally have some problems when you try to play a media file (mainly when you try to use one to play the other's file type).  On Windows machines, I believe QuickTime either works as a plugin for WMP if it's not default, or a stand-alone app if it is.  True, it's not supposed to work that way, but then again, when do computers do exactly what you want them to do (want, not tell)?

Erm... the worst they could do is just steal file-type associations back and forth from each other. It's not like they're both running at the same time unless you make them do it.

they need to get an intel version out. this is one of those situations where the people seem friendly enough, but i feel like i might have to judge them by how they don't deliver.
