Is this image from Time Attack?

I just found it in the ROM, and i've never seen it.

It's time attack mode. There was contest when the game was released. There a few buttons to be pressed to activate it, although I cant remember off hand what they are. I use time attack mode to record my best times. See how it says new record? Thats a game played with time attack mode.

Yeah, those hyphens are replaced by a jumble of characters you could use as the game first came out. It listed your best time and 100% best time. Time Attack mode is just Normal Mode, except it actually records your final time into this menu and tells you if you beat your old record at the end (the text as opium pointed out).

Oh, that took me a minute to figure out. I kept thinking "um, that's a couple of 45 degree angles. O_o"

Correct me if those SDA times are on a different mode (I'll prolly watch them (again?) soon, anyway). Still can't find the/a graphic (if any existed) with the button input overlayed with (under or over, whichever) the symbol, but there are many nice bits of art on the Japanese site, particularly the itty bitty ones in the headers of the PLAY SUPPORT section (though also the PLANET ZEBES page).

EDIT: Then I poke around in the DEVELOPMENT ROOM page, see [some of] the same images along with sketches (Kraid squishing Samus, and Chozo have Namek-like arms, style-wise), and the action figure being discussed in a General Metroid thread linked to, the Metroid comics/manga (I assume) with their release details (at least the ISBN part), and a model of the ~~blaster~~ stun gun? (What did she call it, again?). Oh, and the wall-kick move is, apparently, called the "kick climb" (apply Caps/CAPS as desired).
