Breathe in the Future, Breathe out the Past
I'm not sure if I'll use this idea, but I thought I should let you all know because it could really add the hours to your hacks gameplay. If it's been posted before I apologize in advance.

It's an easy way to create a fetch-quest without asm. A fetch quest for e-tanks. It works by having an area where you must shinespark underwater for a limited duration. This can be done before gravity or just a hack without.

I loved how redesign had me beachcombing the map over and over, made me appreciate the design more, and had me looking for subtle hints. If you want to give your hack this effect, just do this poor mans fetch quest!

Also, you could make a missile door require many missiles (25, whatever) and have missile expansions only give one missile.

Although I think it might be a little tedious if overdone.
Aren't fetch quests generally considered to be a bad thing?

That seems to be the consensus but I personally love them.

Lol, ironically, both energy tank fetch quests, long shinesparks, and very strong red doors make important appearances in my hack.
Fetch quests can be fine as long as they are not overdone, overly tedious and add length for the sake of length instead of adding fun gameplay.  Easier said than done I know.  Going back to previously visited areas is a staple of metroid so I wouldn't mind something like this as long as it's effectively done.

What about get some items in the Space Colony, like the ball and the charge beam.
One of the first items to get on Zebes could be the Gravity Suit.
