Like the title says, I don't think this is an actual metroid game because there isn't anything that you need to explore and find. (I just beat spire so if there is, stab me with a teddy bear :? )
Goddamn, I think my WTF flag just hoisted itself off the pole. I mean, people thought Metroid Prime 2 was not a real Metroid game and would OMFG RUIN METROID FOREVER because it had multiplayer. Hell, same with Prime just for being 3D. It's ridiculous. @_@
Nothing's quite as "hidden" in this game compaired to other Metroids, and some Expansions and such don't even try to avoid your eye, but some you have to think about.
... it's an action game. It was designed to be an action game. A multiplayer action game. It never was a "real" Metroid to begin with. Stop saying it like it's a bad thing.
Yeah, the first two levels are really linear, but after that it tends to open up. And suprisingly, it's an almost perfect cross between a traditional FPS and Metroid, and it feels like a Metroid to me. I'm not sure if they were TRYING for that, but it does.
i painstakingly pieced together all the images for the metroid 2002 image gallery and then never put it into the release version of the site. why? it didn't belong.
Theres tons of exploring and secret places to find, but the way you go about finding them is just slightly different from what we're used to. They changed the psychology of the game very very slightly, but it is still very much Metroid, you just have to let go of the past, maaan. Lol. But seriously...everyone thinks all the previous Metroid games are amazing and wonderful and can't wait to jump on the next one that comes out so they can criticise it. There are some aspects I dont love about the game, but it doesn't make it any less Metroid for me. Give it a chance and try to see the angle they're trying to go at, instead of just comparing it. Each game is different. So this is what Metroid has thus far evolved into. Enjoy it, its great. And everything makes sense when you think about it; even why so many of the bosses look the same. Besdies the fact that they had to cram a ton of stuff on that tiny cartridge, it would make sense for one of each form of boss to be lurking around at each of the four places you can go. And the fact that the planet or station doesn't blow up, is only becasue the station self destructing is only a security protocol (somebody mentioned it a few days ago, that it bugged them that the places don't explode), basically meaning that they have to protect the octolith, but at the same time they WANT you to have it, you just have to prove yourself worthy for it...and anybody that couldnt get the octolith, fight hte bosses, kill off the guardians, and maybe take on another hunter or two on their way to the door while the planet is about to explode, shouldn't have the octolith. Makes sense, doesn't it?
Be prepared for your favorite game to undergo a lot of changes. I'm sure they'll keep making the games, probably even at least one or two more 2D side scrollers, plus the 3D games, and tons of stuff about the way they're played WILL change. But you can always trust Nintendo to make changes that don't change the fact that its still Metroid in every way. Why woudln't they change? We've all changed, and grown up and evolved since the first Metroid, and so has Samus.

I don't know if this was aimed at me, but I beat it, and at 91% I haven't seen a single Metroid. There's still hope though.
There's those little Quadtroid things. Scan said they're a cross between "leech" and lizard DNA, and more importantly it hinted very strongly that they can latch onto you and you have to bomb them off. On the other hand they're weak little wussies that can be defeated by anything and act pretty much the same as a Zoomer.
Think of this as Metroid: Gaiden. Samus is a bounty hunter; this game is capitalizing on that fact and the fact that not every mission of hers involves life-sucking flying jellyfish-like parasites. Yes, it's got a different focus, a different style of play, it's even pretty much a different genre. But you could say almost the same about Fusion.

I agree completely. The second time through each planet involves considerably more exploration, and makes the game feel much more like a Metroid game, and less like a FPS.
er...i know that i suck but doesn't samus travel to universe the universe? I doubt that you'll really find metroids everywhere you go...plus the games got samus power beam missles morph ball and other new weponds and enemys to fight...so why wouldn't it be a metroid game.. plus if all the metroid games were kill metroids all the time wouldn't you get bored....i know i would....
btw sry if this is crap and i suck its not my fault.
metroid the series is now with all the metroids/x supposedly dead and samus in a crazy hybrid metroid suit. the metroid prime series is where hunters belongs timelinewise.
