I haven't played SM in a few years, and yesterday, I started playing again, because it's my favorite metroid game and I thought i might try speed running on it. Well, it worked fine, but when I turned it on today, my game was erased! How can i fix this? Do I need to get a new cart? If so, where can i find one cheap?
Thread title:
replace the battery.

i uhh... don't really know how to do it manually, i have a guy at the flea market do it for my carts.

there are a few guides online, you just need to know where to look.
i probably need to do that too  :(
hmm this *sometimes* happens to me... if I take off the cart from the snes after I turn it off. I always turn off the snes and leave the SM cart in the snes to avoid that, even though I think that isn't a good thing to do. When I turn it on again the files are there.

Try this to see if it work, if not, then I guess you should replace that battery.
I never take the cart out unless I'm switching games. So I guess I nedd to replace the battery or get a new cart. Where can I replace it?

the "Battery Replacement FAQ" should help.

Its actually not that difficult, but i'm too lazy to do it myself..  I've replaced the battery in quite a few of my snes games at this point, mainly the RPG's that i don't want to lose data again (Chrono Trigger is the main one)

Just remember that replacing the battery WILL erase all current save files, but after that you should be fine for a good 10 years or so as long as you take good care of your carts.
I bet the personell at any clockstore (you know, places that repair broken watches etc). They should know that kind of things. I bet that's where I'll be going when my battery in Boktai starts acting weird in the future.
I've never had problems with my SNES carts.  Most of them are now around 10 years old, and trust me, I play them a lot.
Mine SNES still like its brand new. But ive had it for years
