Reasons why I hate it:

Map doesnt make sense=its not........proportional, is the word I suppose. You knwo what I mean? You think that if you go down one floor, and go to the left, you'll end up in the room below the room...eh....

Ok. You're in some random room. You want to get to the room RIGHT below it. So, you go to the right one. Then down one. Then to the left one, right?

That's right? No. Not in this game. You end up CLEAR THE $%# ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MAP. >_<

Second Reason: Its confusing, not enough....."navigational hints.." and when you're on your own that way, it makes it even harder when you're trying to find the next new item.

Oh yeah, the music sucked too.

Ok, I'm done venting.  :x
Thread title:
It's an old game, so I can forgive its lacking music and visuals. But how is the map not proportional? The only time you should be warping from one side to the opposite is if you're doing the secret world glitching.

The map is completely cohesive except for 3 things:
• The final ship placement isn't exactly where the ship originally was
• There's a one-floor warp in the 4th ruins where you can pick up all beams
• The map exists in multiple layers

It's not possible to draw it, but it overlaps itself in a logical fashion allowing you to visualize it correctly. Other than the first two instances, everything "fits".

Ready and willing.
Spider Ball + follow the wall maze trick = ownz. Seriously, Spider Ball (and later Space Jump) makes navigation so much easier.

There's only one instance where the layering occurs in a single "zone", and since the "zones" are all independent, that's the only part where you could get truly confused.

Actually, it is.

If you open up my map in an image editor, and copy and move around the final area you'll see that it lines up exactly with the 2 purple lines/letters that separate it. It really surprised me, considering the two blatent areas of overlap in the map.
Heh, wow. I guess I screwed up pretty badly when I was mapping it out myself. I came up with 5x3 off. :P
Not impossible
just highly unlikely
I never really found navigation to be too hard, even without a map or true visual clues. The game restricts you to a certian area via THE LIQUID, and it sort of follows it's own logic most of the time (go right before you go left at all those forks at the beginning. You know the ones I'm talking about). It's just a matter of keeping it in your head where you've gone in the immediate area: once you've lowered THE LIQUID and moved on, you can delete all that info in your head and make room for the next area.

Of course, I missed like 80% of the items in the game using my awesome navigational skills, so what do I know, eh?
Well yeah, it overlaps which makes no sense to me. 0_o

I think I'll replay it though.

Big picture, caverns aren't 2-d. ;)
Please tell me what that's supposed to mean...
That caverns may overlap, we're not living in a world of 2 dimensions. A cave can be laying infront of another on the same level without touching another. It's called a third dimension.
Armor Guardian
I believe PurpleRidley is unable to comprehend the concept of 3 dimensions.

Okay, that was blatant spam. You WILL be put on probation if you keep this stupidity up.
Why must stupid people exist? They're only useful for ripping off in business deals. Other than that, they're just plain annoying; you tell them to do something and they mess it up. WHY!?
red chamber dream
Why do you have to keep making posts like that? I see that as spam/flaming as well. You are one of the stupid people that you're talking about. Let the mods handle this; you look like an idiot insulting other members.
Another post like that, and you could be considered for probation.
the worst Metroid game i would say
Harsh, but I still want it bad.

It's all opinion, anyway. Some people think it's the best one of them all. I personally think it's a great game. No better or worse than some of the others.
Kabutroid said it was his fave, and so far it's the only one I haven't played. I must have it...

I believe it's also Saber's favourite. I like it quite a lot, but it's not my fav.
Just outta curiosity...which is your fave?

Mine? Metroid Prime.
What luck, there's french fry stuck in my beard.
Metroid II lacks the playability of some of the games, but it's still a great game.
