Kinda like Pandemonium and those games. I've seen quite a few 2D platformers with 3D graphics before. Oh, that Duke Nukem game also did it.
Me, I'm not a fan of that style. If you've got three dimensions, you might as well use them. Besides, there's so much style in hand-placed pixels that can't ever be duplicated with polygons.
A remake on the GBA would be nice, and as an added feature, you could link it up to Prime 2 for a suit color change or something. Mmm.. a black suit in Super Metroid.. yummy.
whatever way they re-do Super, they have to include the Chozo Ruins somewhere. It was in Zero Mission, so it just wouldn't be right for it to suddenly disappear when she returns in Super.

didn't the chozo ruins kinda go boom?
At least, i figured that spaceship destructing would do some damage.

Well, at the end, it shows the little picture carved into the wall in chozo ruins so it should still exist.
I say totally revamp it, like zero mission did to metroid 1. Then, also like zero mission, include the original super, a direct port, for beating the game or something.
I'm kinda torn between leaving it alone and complete remake.
I love Super Metroid as it is. It is my all time favorite game, and every time I go back to it, it never fails to impress me just how far ahead of its time it was. In my opinion it doesn't need any improvement.
However, I've played it to death lately, and I'll admit, I've grown a tad tired of it after countless run-throughs. A fully remade, reinvisioned version of the game, if done well, could easily bring me breathe new life into the game for me.
I still think the controls are retarted, but as said the most likely target is the GBA where they'd have to change the controls anyway.
Super Metroid is great, but it crosses the 3-button threshold. See, the way the SNES controller is designed, of the 4 main buttons, pressing 2 at once is just fine. However, pressing 3 of them generally results in an akward postion, and possible finger damage as you scrap up against the side of a button (particulary the concave X and Y). In Super Metroid, you'll often need to use 3 buttons at once: if you want to shoot in the air, while running (which you want to do 99% of the time), that's 3 buttons.
Oddly enough, I think in SM the ideal button to asign to dash is L. It makes other assignments less intuitive, but it's much easier on the hands.
Running should be automatic. No more holding down a button to run. So thats one button scrapped. If holding R will ativate Missiles the cancel button won't be needed, so thats another button gone.
Only thing I can't work out is how to do Grapple and X-Ray. A third button would be needed for it. Unless u did something like Holding R+L but thats just silly.
I believe the best way to switch between the items would be to HOLD down the select button a push another button at the same time to select the item you want to use. (Hold Select + L = Missles, Hold Select + R = Super Missles, etc.). Since power bombs could be easily already selected when going into morph ball mode, all you would have to do then is hold R and fire off your item. Problem solved. :)
No, automatic running would be like "Player's Choice"ing the game, (takes out quicker running/some sparks you can't do otherwise), and the controls are fine..for me anyway (select isn't that hard to push a couple times...).
Yeah, taking out the run button would kill the newb bridge and it would put an ending to the mockball. Besides it would be interesting to see what could be done if they put on the DS. It would be awesome to change weapons using the stylus, but I never had any problems with the good ol' select button.
