Hi!

First post and all. Some of you guys may know me from the Metroid boards (namely Prime) but that's beside the point here really ;)

I got access to the 100% run of Fusion via GameFAQs but I just don't know how to play the files. They are in WMV & WM0 formats. My emulator (VBA 1.7 & 1.6a) gives me an error message that I just don't understand :)

"Save game is using the BIOS file". I'm not used to emulators for obvious reasons. Do I have the wrong version of the Emu or the game or something? So wana watch this to see if I can improve my own running.

Thanks!
Thread title:
There's a file you need.  Get on IRC (#metroid on irc.metroid2002.com) and I can give you more information.
Alright. I'll download mirc tomorrow. Time for some Seinfeld ;)
Click me: DISTRIBUTING THE ACTUAL GBA BIOS IS ILLEGAL, SO DON'T CLICK ME! - oopsies, didn't know that wasn't allowed Embarassed

Put it anywhere you feel like putting it, then open VBA, go to options > emulator > select bios file and locate it, then go to options > emulator once more, and check use bios file.

Alright, I'll quote myself with an explanation of what's the Bios file. :) Here goes:

Quote from Somewhere else, I:
I assume you've used a real GBA before. See the intro screen that appears when you load any game? (The one with the GBA logo in rainbow colors?) That screen is provided by a special file in the main ROM area of the GBA console that validates the games used. It's called the BIOS file (or, in computer terms, "booting file"). Since most games nowadays are tested by the BIOS, and tend to screw up sometimes without it, people ripped an actual BIOS from a console, and saved it as a VBA compatible file, so the VBA could work exactly as a real GBA. Hope that helps. :)

Also, the reason of you getting that error is because the VBA movie files load your game to a specific savestate given within the movie, and then carry out a series of commands that make the emu believe the user is actually sending keypresses to execute functions on the program; and movie files are what could be called "Bios sensitive". If a savestate is made with the Bios, it can only be loaded with the Bios, and vice versa.

So, I think with this  you should have a basic grasp of what's going on. :)

EDIT: Since AssA's link was deleted, you'll have to find out a bios file on any emulation site. A good suggestion would be doing a google search on it to find it. :)
Oops, I didn't realize distributing the Bios file was illegal, I thought only linking to roms wasn't allowed Embarassed
We all make mistakes, I wouldn't worry about it. Essentially the BIOS is a ROM, though, just a special kind of ROM. Whereas a normal ROM is the software stored on a cartridge, the BIOS is the software in the GBA itself. An emulator may treat them differently, but from a legal point of view they're more-or-less the same thing.

Finally got that link in, didn't you?
Thanks for your help :) Dunno any good emu sites though... anyway, is the movie any good? I'm down to 1:10 any% & 1:42 100% so I like to watch these to see if I can improve my own time. So far I managed to get these times all by my own (just using the GameFAQs map from time to time, and by watching the movies @ m2k2).
Not impossible
just highly unlikely

You have no idea just how long I've been waiting.
Well I got it working now. Time to watch and hopefully be amazed :)

Are there by any chance more Fusion movies on this site that I'm not aware of?

Edit: Yay the movies won't work properly :D I suppose I'm doing something wrong 'cause after a few seconds of playing, all movements get out of sync and Samus gets stuck next to a wall doing all her moves that she's supposed to do further away into the current room. Looks kinda funny though :)

About since the board started.

Try setting the frame rate to 0, and the frame skipping on. ;) That might work. :)
you need to use the same version of vba as recorded the videos.

*Not surprised* :) You wouldn't happen to know which version it is recorded in? I'll try 1.6a just for fun ;)

Lot's of quotes here. But anyway, it was 1.7 that I first used and it was apparently wrong but I finally got it working with 1.6a. So far I've only seen 4 parts and only seen one new thing for me to speed up TRO. But that's always something :)

You should see the "It's Good To Play Together" topic, in the Boardwalk.  SO MANY QUOTES!
Well finished watching just now. Great time. Great mistakes everywhere ;) kept saying throughout the entire movie that "how the heck will he beat my time?" :) No problem apparently.

Is this route by any chance the optimal one? 'Cause mine is quite different.
Heh, I find that run kinda painful, all those small mistakes  :?
Oooo. I just finished watching his run. He has a much different route than mine too. I can't really tell which one is faster either.

I think the final sweep of mine after Ridley is longer but I do skip several power ups and grab them all in a single route with almost no backtracking.

:?

I might find out for myself later.

Well you must've been faster somewhere since you beat him by 10 whole minutes! :D

Well, he did make several mistakes during his run that slowed him down.

True. Can't believe he got such a time :D with such mistakes. There wasn't just a few either.
