hotarubi also put up a single-seg low% run on youtube a few days ago... he got :44 just like in the test run. the man is ridiculous!
I just watch it. This run is probably all around coolest run by Hotarubi. He need insane amount manipulate refill luck in tourian. MB is very scared boss. Ridley as well is hard.
+There is very little amount mistakes. Actually first 14% TAS was 47 min. Current 34 min. This is almost TAS run and without save very hard category. I don,t really know is Hotarubi human or robot. I belive hotarubi is robot.
I can't imagine trying to pull off the walljump past the rippers to get the powerbombs earlier, not in a speed run anyways. I did it like 10 years ago just playing around because I realized it was possible, but it probably took me a half hour or so... and he just does it like it's no big deal.
Figures. I go away for a few months alnd look what happens. Amazing work, Hotarubi.
The moving of Crocomire to after LN was a great idea, and the CF during the giant metroid scene was genius.
I haven't watched the low% run yet, but I wanted to comment on the 100% right away.
Catnap222, my route differs from Hotarubi's in that I do blue Brinstar/Crateria items after Kraid on the way to Wrecked Ship, including the PBs off the landing site.
From there, I'd suggest the same route hotarubi used until after Norfair, where he should try, instead of going partway up the red Brinstar shaft and cutting into green Brinstar there, going all the way up the shaft, grabbing the PBs in the giant sidehopper room, then going into Crateria through the red Brinstar entrance, wrapping a plasma/wave beam shot around the landing site to open the door to the Gauntlet, then doing a short charge on the ledge across from the Gauntlet entrance and sparking through the first room of the Gauntlet.
I'd greatly appreciate it if you could let Hotarubi know about my route in case it proves to be faster. If you need smvs or more detailed descriptions of anything, let me know.
i noticed a few things he should've changed... 1.gotten reserve tank and 2 missles before the first super missle tank 2.skip bomb chozo mini-boss (thats skippable on SNES right?)
Skipping the bomb torizo is not possible on console, it's a TAS only trick.
And taking the R-tank before the super would not have been faster the way he did it. (because of the missile he takes on the way out) However it is faster (ingame) and easier to pick up the missile under the bridge first, exit then re-ener grab the R-tank and the missiles and exit via the super missile path.
bulleta's right. No one has 'what it takes' to even reach :50/100%. Even if something huge is discovered to get that time the emu vids will take it further. And yes, the only way to compete with that is to play the same way they do, and still, there's no fun/point in doing that. Why competing for something when it doesn't take skill to do?
I also agree with chuck in another view. Legit vids (whether they're done on the cart or emu) and re-recorded videos (using slowdown /states) are two completely different things. There's a :34 cheated vid up, and I simply don't give a damn about it anymore but at the same time I just don't feel like doing another one knowing that I'll never be able to even break that. Still though, I bet none of them can even reach a 1:00 or a :40, and if they do it still doesn't matter to me.
I am sorry for being so unsupportive, but it is just the truth. Take in mind also what it feels like to hit the stop/record button of the VCR countless of times for hours to have something good at the end to then be broken in just a short period of time by someone. It throws away the motivation to continue doing this.
Ah, they were just scared and confused. Who can blame them... from reading those posts it seems like the TASers back then were being jackasses about it, too, but I'm only going by those posts so who knows.
I can't believe how much people where bitching about TASers back then... We are not evil damn it!
There wasn't really a fine line between TASing and Speedrunning at that point, not enough of one for many people to know the difference anyway. And IIRC that 100% TAS was even submitted to SDA as a legit run, which probably didn't help the TASing reputation.
