Crazy theory time:

What if the ship is Dark Samus's?

No, I'm not saying she survived the destruction of 313 and then Phaaze (though it never said Dark Samus Defeated--only Repulsed, and she was never seen after 313 blew up, so that could be it too...)...

Notice in the intro, with the pods. Dark Samus came out of one, but there were many others.

Now notice that deep within Phaaze, there were multiple Prime husks.

And each hunter was possessed at the same time, or so it seemed... so maybe it was a different DS for each one?

Phazon may be gone for good, but she might not...

Everyone at Gamefaqs and such (bit of that here, too) seems to think it's Sylux, but... the 100% endings have a major habit of showing (a) Dark Samus returning, and it'd be a cool way to extend the Retro 3D Metroid series without having to base every game around Phazon... or at least just to give Samus a new recurring antagonist besides Ridley.

I always saw the reocurring enemy as metroid prime, hence the name of the games, it just took on the form of samus. Of course the source of all that is Phazon. I mean you could be right, but I'm sure they were trying to tie it up as much as possible, but nothing is certain. Nice alternative theory.

Everyone seems to think it's Sylux because, well, it's Sylux's ship. If it was meant to be someone else, I don't think Retro would have given whoever else it's supposed to be a ship that looks identical to Sylux's.

Besides, Dark Samus doesn't use a spaceship anyway, she just flies.

It's not completely identical, and why the hell would Sylux be there? Also the front looks like DS's visor, whereas Samus's ship's front usually looks like her visor.

And yes, she flies, but how far? Do you really think she flew all the way between planets and galaxies on her own before acquiring the Leviathans? Having a phazon ship of some sort makes sense.

There are a few minor design changes, and the front of the Delano 7 in MPH looked like Dark Samus's visor anyway.

Once again--if it wasn't supposed to be Sylux, the ship wouldn't look (almost) identical to the Delano 7. It's far too similar to just write it off.

And why would Sylux be there? He hates Samus, and is following her, waiting for the perfect chance to strike/spying on her. Simple.

It doesn't look much like the Delano 7 to me. That was longer, more squared off, and a deeper blue.

Also, wasn't the D7 a Federation prototype anyway? Maybe it's a Federation guy of some sort who'll play a role in the next game.

Looks the same length to me, and the MP3 one is a lighter blue color and less squared off, but those are small graphical changes when you consider the large graphical leap between Hunters and Corruption. The general shape is still the same, and it's still blue and green (though not as deep a shade of blue).

The four hook shaped moving wings that sit on the bottom are the exact same wings hook wings that sit on the bottom of Sylux's ship in MPH. That'd be way, way too much of a coincidence if it isn't supposed to be the Delano 7.

I'm going to stick with Occam's Razor on this one--if they didn't want you to think that it was Sylux, they wouldn't have used the ship associated with him.

But it isn't his ship--it's a ship that's fairly similar, so perhaps they just wanted you to keep him in mind, so that you'd be surprised by the identity of who it really is. A misleading gesture.

For the last time--it's his ship. It's not just fairly similar, it's very similar. And Retro has never been the "mislead the fans into thinking something else" type--all of the previous endings have been obvious as to what they meant, and I don't see why they would all of a sudden start being vague and misleading now.

Bah, I forgot how much I hate arguing with you, Daz. :P

you're right, it could be, but it is a very common habit with movie and game makers to be very obvious and not completely mislead their audience. will they make it vague and allow speculation? yeah. I think they put that in to let people know that metroid is not dead, but they've been saying forever that this is the last prime game, and I think the next game is going to have it's own story, just like the prime games had their own story. Although it is kind of odd to me that they are keeping another hunter from a prime game (prime hunters), rather than just starting afresh.

i have a question for all the Sylux believers - if that's his ship, then how did he manage to survive being near all that phazon on planet phaaze if the current theory here is that he followed her? he didn't have a ped suit...

an idea (for ntsc prime 1's plotholes - someone please tell me if this works):

Prime was sealed away in the impact crater by the chozo. it makes sense to say that "Prime isn't allowed to leave the crater." However, I never once read a log that said the crater couldn't be accessed somehow. (Maybe) It's possible that Prime is bound to the crater by the chozo magic, but the pirates accidentally "bumped into" Prime while mindlessly mining for phazon.

but then that leaves one question - what about the gate? what is it's purpose?

my idea: maybe the gate was designed to take the holder of the artifacts to the resting place of Prime in the impact crater. didn't the pirates already mention that they pacified it? (maybe) because of this, the Gate took you exactly where the pirates pacified it after trying to study it. Prime is permanently sealed away in the crater (meaning he can't leave from it), but it doesn't stop outsiders (like say, the pirates) from traversing inside the crater.

someone please tell me if that works (or if they know what i'm trying to say because i might of just mangled my idea as i tried to put it in word form).

another idea: the pirates deemed prime "unsuitable" for study and sealed up the place where they pacified it to prevent any further mishaps - forcing samus to take the only way possible to prime: the artifacts.
