Finally, all I have to say is man, this was back when you guys were posting the demented vids of speedtricks in prime. I think that was around when I joined. Pity I'm not in any of the irc chatlogs.

Nate, you might want to specify the GameFAQs SM community in the first sentence/paragraph of m2k2 -> m2k2sda rather than just the SM community. Assuming that's what you meant.

Narratively speaking, it's unclear what role deskjockey_ was playing previous to your giving them the password. He's mentioned as "someone from the super metroid community" introducing you to Scarlet, but nothing else (unless I missed it) until the paragraph about the MPD. That part is in the order MPD - female on IRC every day - hacker who's good for m2k2 - root pwd - server wipe - created irc server months earlier. If this were a RPG it would suffer from endboss never mentioned previously in the game syndrome.

It would make a bit more sense if the paranoid hacker on your side part had been put in earlier on. I don't know when that happened, of course, so I can't suggest where. The MPD part is good where it is, but how deskjockey_ got so involved with the site that he was trusted with root should be mentioned, as otherwise it sounds totally arbitrary.

But of course this is your story and you should tell it however you think it works best.

Yeah... I remember talking to Marie\\\\\ and asking her who she was, curious but not trying to be offensive (for some reason I thought she might try to lay down the law on me). She was always like "I'm a friend of Nate's." and I was like "aight, good enough for me." Goddamn... yeah, this shows that the whole thing was a little deeper than I thought it was; I don't remember seeing those pms you had with Marie\\\\\ before now, not all of them anyway, particularly the parts where she... er, flipped. I do remember the "How could you tell her?" line though. Man. Thanks again to Radix, pretty much.
And uh, yeah, it's a good thing SAL isn't like... totally retarded or anything, cause otherwise I might be sort of upset that he impersonated DJ, if only because I liked DJ. Douche.

chanoire, i think it's a miracle the thing isn't more disjointed than it is. now that sounds like i'm about to make excuses, and i really can't bring myself to do that, but i do think that i was still stuck in this "just write some comments for the birthday occasion and it'll be good enough" mentality from the first one, and that hurt the continuity of this part, which actually was a lot more salient/exploitable than i realized when i was starting on this part. for one thing, i didn't see how deskjockey and scarlet together were actually the most important story in it until after i finished (deskjockey introduces scarlet and marie erases the server, two of the three most important things to happen to metroid 2002 in 2004). so yeah, they should have appeared as a common thread tying together an otherwise focusless narrative, but i took the "let's talk about this now" route instead, jumping around in time, and this block suffers because of it.

in other words, this was not meant to be publishable, and i think that your ability to figure out the way things actually were in spite of how i wrote it shows that further effort probably would not have helped things enough to warrant spending more time on it.

and as far as i know, the sm community was just the sm community, a united thing across internet services similar to how the prime community was. the difference was that the sm community self-destructed, and the surviving elements thereof more or less disappeared into other communities (one of which being ours; see kejardon's posts on the super metroid forum here and scarlet's contributions to the super metroid section).

The SM community didn't so much self-destruct as fall apart. Marie\\\\\ killed dj and then Ultima went away. The only one left is Kej... and those three were the lifeblood of the channel.

I'm just talking about #supermetroid here, but still.

meant self-destruct in contrast to being broken up by outside forces. was a bit of a glib reference to the unstable nature of all but one of the remaining old timers (kejardon) at the time of the collapse.
