This may seem stupid to ask, but I'm a complete idiot.

Just lost Lyle, and staring with the four blue guys (in the S1 Field). Exactly what am I supposed to scan or wait for? The only things I can scan are them.

Try turning around. Pretty sure the scan point is on the ground in the other direction from the solders.

the scanning moments seem to be the ones where people get stuck the most. i had trouble with a few but figured them out rather fast by looking everywhere.

in a thread flagged with spoilers, what's the point of spoiler tags? they know there are spoilers going into the thread...

anyway

In the main sector before the control room where you get your mission breifing, there's a room with U shaped platforms, an elevator, and a charge pickup behind a glass wall that I can't seem to figure out how to access. Anyone know how to get it?

you need the wave beam to activate the switch to open the door.

i thought the flag in the title was to avoid having all posts with "hidden" but people are fine with it..

I agree, I just didn't want to break any rules. It was just in case. Thanks in any case.

Apparently I missed in item in one of the first couple rooms in the game, but the doors nearing the starting room are locked. is there any way to get it?

You can get that much later in the game

It would be nice if someone who was stuck in the first part of the game could come into this thread for help without seeing spoilers for the game ahead.

It could basically work like this:

'I need help in sector 2:'

LOL

I'm stuck in sector 3.

I defeated the lava monster in the crater.  Now where do I go?  There's a door on the main map that goes leaves the crater and goes to the right, but I don't see one anywhere.  I have gone up and down the whole crater about 8 times, I've gone back in the opposite direction as far as I can go.  How come the mini-map looks nothing like the main map on the menu screen?  Why can't I see the door?

EDIT:  nevermind, I watched it on youtube.  It involves a total 'leap of faith' that I would have never figured out because you can't see the area that you land on.

EDIT:  Damn, I got stuck again.  Apparently to go to sector 2, you have to enter a door that's clearly marked 'sector 3'.  It's also a red door, which until now has meant 'locked' even though it opens when you approach it.  Hmm.
Got stuck 2 more times and had to use youtube, and both times the solutions were things that I would not have figured out.  I think I am just unable to conceptualize how this game works.  I'm finding myself scratching my head and thinking:  what is it that they want me to do?  I think I'm going to enjoy this game the second time around, but the first time is a nightmare.

I'm currently on a 100% item hunt and I'm stuck:
In the Bioweapon Research Lab,in the room before the one the GF breaks in near the end of the game, there's a missile exp behind some glass, there seems to be an opening in the ceiling in the far left window section and I tried going around most of the rooms to try and find a grate or a tube that would lead there but I'm out of option.
Can anyone push me in the right direction?
You know the glass in the middle with the open ceiling at the top. There's a glass on 3 sides(front, left and right side). Go at the other side(back side of the glasses). Then jump inside it.

I feel stupid now, I knew this thing was suspicious but I forgot to look at it at the right angle. Thanks for the fast answer! Now I just need to work on sector 1 & 3.
I had the same problem too I've been looking for it for 10 minutes.

i was just going to post about this missile, finnaly 100%!

So I've died about 6 times fighting the lava whale.  IGN already has a guide posted, and all it says is basically to shoot it until it dies.  Problem is, when his health is about 2/3 gone, he starts doing an attack which is so damaging that you only survive a couple of hits. Of course, the guide fails to mention this attack or how to avoid it (did they even play it?)  Any help would be appreciated.

you mean the big ass fish in sector 3? i didn't had been hit by that thing, so i am not sure what are you talking about...

i just.. shot it until it died...
of course you need to use the grapple beam to pull it into the ground so you can fire at his belly...

if you mean the one when you get the varia suit, you nee tto freeze his tentacle and jump into it...

But what do you do when he jumps out of the water and slides, mouth open, along the platform you're standing and drags you into the lava with his mouth?

That's how he kills me everytime.  I haven't figured out a way to avoid it since his gaping mouth covers the entire platform.
Indie Lover
you just dodge, y'know press any direction the moment he comes closer?

did you paid attention to the training?

If I dodge him, I end up going into the lava.  Nevermind, I just beat him because I just now figured out that you can get out of the lava!  Throughout the whole game everytime I ended up in lava, I died.  The first few times I ended up in lava, I pressed jump a couple times and nothing happened, so I assumed that you couldn't get out of it. If you push it over and over, she finally jumps out.  Every other metroid game shows samus moving slightly when you try to jump out of quicksand, lava, etc.  I had no indication to think that pressing jump was helping at all.
And I never was able to pull him out of the lava using the grapple beam.  It takes one second to switch to first person view, and then 3-4 seconds to steady the damn reticule, and by then he's gone. I've heard two reviewers complain about that issue, and I'm wondering if there's something about my sensor bar positioning that makes the transitions so choppy.
I did notice that you basically have to be pointing at the bar itself most of the time to go into first person. (At least it feels like it) Luckily from where I play it's right in front of me at eye level, so it's not as bad for me as it could be for others.
I heard in another thread, that it requires a lot of charged shot to kill an enemy. I noticed most of the time the, after the Diffusion Beam, has a Area of Effect and the charge beam doesn't do a damage but the 5-6 other mini charged shot does damage. Since some enemy needs to be hit at a certain spot to be damaged. That means the scattered charged shot isn't doing any or a little damage. They seems to die way quickly when using the normal shots instead.

Ugh I'm stuck in what I think is the final battle in the game.
The problems of auto-targeting and the 1st to 3rd person switch are culminating in a grand finale of bullshit.  They must have actually thought highly of this control scheme to set up the final fight this way.

which part exactly?
to beat the 3 stages of the queen Metroid, you have to do this:
part 1: blast the metroids with a charge shot closely after dodging them. the scatter shot effect will freeze them and then you can use missiles.
part 2: use seekers to destroy the crystals on top of the queen's head.
part 3: use a power bomb. it works even though the game doesn't tell you it can be done.

melissa cutscene battle: just aim and lock at her with the remote. blast away the enemies that block your sight so you have a clear shot.
