I think your current is much better but oh well... I guess just go to your favorite search engine and look for file compressor maybe... I'm really not that good at this computer stuff
Compressing an animated GIF is quite hard. You have to find yourself an editor that can open up each frame separately and optimize it. Anyhow... Animation Shop (Adobe)... should be able to take care of it. However, that is, like all other products by Adobe, far from free.
You could try searching on www.sourceforge.net for a free graphics editor that could handle something like that. Wouldn't surprise me if there were several.
I made it in Adobe Imageready (the orginal image is from Photoshop).
I've added a poll to see if it is worth my time compressing it or not.
You just took the original picture and added effects right? I was going to ask if you could send it to me, and I could try making an animation, with a small file-size for you.....might be a bit difficult if it's in .psd format though...
Here's a trick to lower the filesize: When you have the PSD, count how many frames your animation will have, then save all the frames independently. Open them all again, and flatten the images. Now count your frames. Let's suppose you have six 100x00 frames. So make a new image 300x200, and place all your frames there (this size, compared to the sizes and amount of the original frames, will leave no blank spot). Flatten the image, and index the colors (Image Mode Indexed Color), and choose a pallette that you like (I recommend any of the two Adaptive options). Now go to Image Mode Color Table, and save the current pallette. And now, after all that, crop the individual frames and paste them into new images, and index their colors using the previously saved pallette. With this, you achieve the lowest change rate available in a GIF image, and the compression rate can increase a little when you compress them. :)
Sorry if this was a little long. :)
As for people with larger avatars, it's probably because of remote linkage. They're not uploading the images, and the system can't rate remotely stored images. :)
I like the non-animated one better. The flashing words just take away from the picture as a whole. The letters are all plain and bleh.
Edit: Hey, I just noticed that samus is glowing and the beam is shooting. That part is cool. So I vote animated without words. (Just pretend it's another choice or something)
I could make Samus move, I just don't know what to move. Like should I move just her arm cannon or what? If I had an idea of this I could make it look even better...
If i had the file I could try....but adding a motion to Samus would ultimately up the file-size.... depending on how and which way you made her move, the number of frames needed to succeed in that animation, and how good it needs to look. Also if I could add, not to be picky or anything- but in my opinion, the image would look even cleaner if you took the embossed edges off from around it...

I'm not too sure about that. I haven't played prime in awhile. Does her cannon shake while shooting the phazon beam? If it does, try to make it look like it's shaking, but she is steadying herself.
