I have recently been going for a fast speed run time (latestest Speed run time is 0:51:21), and I tried to go through Kraid's without activating the Zip Lines. a link to it is here:

I'm still amazed at it, and it took me many, MANY tries to do it on the rom, but I finally did it. This is useful if you are going for an any% game and don't want to activate the zip lines.

There is a much easier method of doing this, although I am certain it has been discovered already.  You will need the power grip for this.  Simply go to the leftmost set of blocks (bomb over the other blocks using the same method as early varia), and get as far left as you can without falling into the lava.  Now just mash B pretty quickly, and as the first bomb hits you start holding left.  You should get popped up a little bit, and you'll be able to grab onto the ledge.
