Which ZM boss did you find the hardest?
Kraid (4)
Ridley (2)
Mother Brain (59)
Samus-in-a-ball (5)
Robot Ridley (24)
I'm just wondering who you guys think was the hardest boss? Some of them were severly tougher than I expected *cough*motherbrain*cough*, and some were a lot easier than expected *cough*ridley*cough*.

I'd have to say I found Robot Ridley the toughest, though. I just couldn't line up a good shot on it.

Due to limited poll choices, I've just included the "main" bosses.
Thread title:
I voted for Mother Brain. Every time you fall in the lava, her eye closes and she fires that huge frickin' laser. The hard part about her though are those cherrios and dots that constantly shoot. They get annoying.
i'll have to admit that mother brain was much harder than i expected. died three times there (on normal) before finally putting her away.
I died the first time to MB because I was standing on the front block.  With the new Psycho Blast you have to stand on the back tile and jump up on the upper tile when she fires.  The eye stays open forever after the shot.  There are a lot less of the tiny gun shots heading your way on the back tile as well, so all you have to do is screw attack the circles.  Second time I didn't even lose 1 energy tank, but I probably got a little lucky.

I don't like it when I lose to a boss the first time, because that means is if it had really been me, I would have died.  :|  It's very satisfying to figure out how to win the first time and pull it off before you get killed.

Now that I don't have to worry about spoilers, I wanted to say something about the ending segments.  Like Toozin, I really liked how you suddenly inherited the power of God after doing all those stealth segments.  It's a very nice, simple, tried and true theme of receiving power only when you deserve it.  The heroic music was cool at first but the problem is that it NEVER stops and it drives you crazy in just a few minutes.  The Mother ship music was good and its just a shame they chose music that turns that section of the game into 'Yay-now go kill everything and beat the game easily!'

I also like the Chozo quite a bit, they don't go to the extreme of becoming dirt eating druids, but neither do they worship or overemphasize their technology.  Their Egyptian themed art seems to indicate a society based on disciplined, respectful obedience to elders.
Mother Brain was the toughest for me.  I died once on Kraid but got it down the second time pretty easily.  Ridley was a pushover, let him grab you and then unload a barrage in his face.  When it came to Mother Brain, I was like, wtf!?  In the original metroid, you're standing where one of the regenerative walls was while fighting her.  The little turrets aren't firing directly at you and the only problems are the rinkas and falling into the lava because of the rinkas.

For ZM, they put you in the middle of the fray so there are about three turrets firing at you, 3-4 rinkas coming at you from various directions, MB's psycho-blast and the lava below.  I'd freeze one rinka only to be hit by a turret blast and fall into the lava... only to be hit by another rinka while trying to get back out.

Robot Ridley was pretty easy.  I think somewhere around 10 Super Missles will do him in.  The battle goes a little faster if you can hit him while he's hunched over preparing to fire his fireballs or lasers; there's a small space wide enough for a missle to get through.
Maybe it was because I was absolutely possessed with finishing the game at that point, but I beat every one of the latter bosses on the first go-around.

I voted for Robot Ridley, but, in actuality, it is those damnedable ninja space pirates right in front of the escape craft that caused me the most grief.  Those bloody things killed me six or seven times.  Alas, there was no poll option for "Damnedable ninja space pirates". Every time they killed me, I had to kill Robot Ridley again, so she gets the credit.

I've also decided Robot Ridley is female, for whatever reason.

Ah yes, the Elite Pirate types.  They killed me the first time but the second run I adopted hit-and-run tactics.  I lured them (or if you're lucky, only one) to the upper level and hit them as they came up over the ledge.  Inevitably they got behind me so I dropped down and hit them when they came down.  Rinse and repeat.  I think 3 charged shots takes care of one of them.  Take them one on one if you can.

You can also use another basic tactic: whenever you're in a point of advantage, just keep shooting at them with your Beam gun. Each time you hit them, they'll start walking in the opposite direction they were originally, and if you just keep hitting them, they'll keep walking back and forth on the same spot and eventually explode.
hmmm. now i don't feel so bad about getting my ass kicked around by those pirates.

MB was by far the hardest, simply because you couldn't move anywhere.  1/3 of the room is MB, the back part is a wall, and there are turrets everywhere. i think if they made the battle bigger than one screen, it would have been considerably easier.

one thing i just thought of is how samus owes her life to the metroids yet again... seeing as how when you go to MB, you notice about 20 grey pirates.... dead, luckily.... and we all know how much fun it'd be to face those things....

one thing to remember for bosses - when in doubt, super missiles. lots and lots of super missiles.
Mother Barin was the hardest boss, without any doubt...

Had to restart 4-6 times, then I noticed that it is indeed much easier when you stand on the second tile farer  away from mb.

RoboRidley was a joke with super missiles.
I just finish a low(ish) percent game, and MB is much tougher with fewer energy tanks than Robo-Ridley.  But, still, it is those Goddamned black space pirates that screwed me over, time and again.  Took me something like fifteen attempts.  When I finialy made it, I had 14 health left.

I'm just about ready to declare them the true final boss of the game.
Overall... maybe MB's harder, but once you get the trick, you'll never get hit by its deadly beam. But my vote goes for Robo-Ridley... for some reason, on Hard 100%, he just wont die b4 you throw all your super missiles and half your normal ones. And since you can only be hit 2 times by its arm, he's the hardest :)
Those black Space Pirates are easy peasy... but maybe that's becaue I so far have only played 'easy'. MB is a bitch, well not Brain herself but rather the Rinka/gun Turrets. Kept shooting me into the lava, and as soon as I climbed back on the block I got shot into the lava again. Died the first time, hardly got hit the second time. If you jump across her beam you can offload at least 5 Supers into her eye.
lol no way
I voted MB, cause that's who I'm stuck on in my 10% right now... so hard... I can get like 15 missiles into her eye after the glass is gone. Anyway, yeah, Ridley was also a bastard. Hey, it's tuesday... game hits shelves today... DIBS!
i blasted mecha ridley away with 6 supers right away, easy, so ill go with MB
For some reason, the only boss that managed to kill me was Robo-Riddles. I guess he took me by suprise... Got him QUITE easily on the second try... Maybe I was just lucky on Mother Brain...
i love how the missile number on aj's avatar is readable to us, which means either that it would be backward to samus or that the visor employs an advanced dual-layer holographic projection screen to show the hud correctly for both samus and people looking at samus (unlikely considering the suit was designed for samus and samus alone).
Yes, Samus has only 5 missiles left.... or 200... :D
btw, there are no spoilers of Doom in this topic... ;P

I was anticipating that with a poll of this nature, potentially every spoiler possible in the game could easily come up here. That, and I was using hyperbole :P
I find that to kill the Black Ninja Space Pirates (:P) quickly, stand 'n shoot tactics work wonders. Although standing still and pressing the fire button as fast as you can doesn't actually involve tactics :P

My vote goes to Mother Brain, because of the being shot at from all sides bit. Although Robo Ridley's the only boss that actually managed to kill me (and only on me 100% run), MB's surely the most annoying boss in the entire game :P
