i hope this is where i lodge a complaint, i couldnt find anywhere more suiting... i requested a link to a metroid zero mission rom, and was politely told that we arent allowed to request roms on this forum. that was fine, but then yoshi came, made a rude comment about stealing, and closed the thread. then i made a new thread, not being able to explain my situation on the old one, and titled it "please read before u close". in that thread, i explained that i OWN the game, and thus i am not stealing anything by downloading a rom for it. i also explained my reasons for wanting a rom, which is mainly to conserve batteries. this thread was deleted entirely, so everyone would assume me a thief. im assuming this was yoshi (sorry if im wrong, but it logicaly follows) and im also assuming he didnt read it, as i requested, but just deleted it. if this one is deleted too, i will be very angry...

That happened because the staff here is very rude and strict about illegal issues. How can you prove them you have the actual cartridge in a way they actually believe you? There's none, and as such, mods and admins delete and/or lock anything related to illegal talk around. Such illegal tlak includes most rom images in any way, shape or form.

Of course, there are a few legal roms out there, but that's another story. :P
Even if you own the cart, its still illegal to have the rom. However, I read it in a Nintendo Power magazine a while back, and i probably wouldnt be able to find it again. I'm sure someone else around here knows of an article or something stating the same thing.

I think there was an issue with M2K2 and roms or something as well, which is why mods enforce the "no rom-speak rule" so much. That or someones having a bad day...
And sorry if that post didnt make a whole lot of sense... It's 4 in the morning, and i dont really care about making understandible scentences, or actual words for that matter.
ROMs = Illegal. Bottom line. Well, okay, they're not ALWAYS illegal, but ones of commercial games on the market, 99.9% of the time, are. The "already own the game" clause is bullshit, as are many other clauses I've heard, such as the "can only download for 24 hours" clause. You can't prove someone only had it for 24 hours.

Not that I necessarily condemn ROM usage, but it IS technically illegal, so a message board is not the best place to ask and you will not get a warm response by asking for ROMs. Find them yourself.
I take the same opinion, to an extent.  the stuff about owning the game, and deleting the ROM after 24 hours is bull.  No one can prove this.  But, ROMs are highly illegal just about anywhere.  Not to the extent of marijuana, but you get the drift.

It is legal to own the rom if you made it yourself, but IIRC the devices used to actually do that aren't legal themselves.

Requesting roms can get places in trouble if they provide, so Yoshi had every right to delete the topic, but the rude thing, well, he's a mod so he can do that.  Wink

No, they are still not legal unless you make the actual rom you are playing.  Downloading a rom even if you bought the game ain't legal, you have to create the rom you are playing.

But eh, just being technical.  :o

Though it'll seem extremely useless of me posting this, indeed, Buletta is right. The ONLY way to ensure a ROM is legal is if you make it yourself AND distribute it under the freeware license. (Such as the guy who made the ORN rom.) But if you make it and decide to keep it to yourself, it's immediately copyrighted by YOU and only YOU and those YOU decide to choose can use it. Should anybody else use it, that'd also be considered illegal.
A little technicality goes a long way.  Such as... Bulleta, the purple in your avatar is approximately 37.3% red, 59.2% blue, and 3.5% green, with about 58.9% saturation and a brightness of 3.8.

Edit #1: Take note that I didn't actually measure this, and I don't even know how. :P  :P  :P

Edit #2: Gah!  Foiled again by split-second posting!  Curses...
I always thought the roms being illegal thing was retarded... It's like burning a cd, there's nothing wrong with it, it's one you start making profit off it it becomes an issue...
afaik it comes from the dmca (Digital Millenium Copyright Act of 1998) which says the customer has a legal right to make one backup copy of software they own - it doesn't say anything about someone else making the copy for you. thus, cds that are copy protected are more or less illegal in the united states, and roms that you don't make yourself are more or less illegal in the united states. so yeah, break the law if you want (the pigopolists sure seem content to), but try not to do it in plain sight on my forum.

Wanna know why it's not retarded? Because even if you don't make any profits out of it, the companies who actually made them and ARE supposed to make the profits aren't. And if they aren't, they suffer financial losses. And if they suffer financial losses, they'll eventually disappear. So you're basically stealing their profits, even if you don't make any of your own. And I dunno if it's just me, but I always thought stealing was deemed illegal.
Not impossible
just highly unlikely
You break the rules, you get yelled at. Quite simple really.

There's no need to explain yourself. Just don't do it again. Also simple.
i think its kinda retarded to not be allowed to download a rom for a game you own, if you keep it to urself. that doesnt take any profit. it doesnt take anything. it just lets you play a game you own on the computer instead of a tiny little screen that takes batteries. i dont see anything illegal about that. unless, of course, you go into battery companies...but then, i have an ac adapter that cuts out every once in a while i use, so im not taking from them either.
EDIT: why is the letter "u" used by itself u ?
oh never mind...
Actually, any sort of nintendo product emulator IS completely 100% illegal, nintendo bought the patent to its own emulators, so unless you ask them to be able to use it, its illegal.

I think it's kinda retarded that you're still complaining about a topic, which deliberately disobeyed the rules.... why not just forgive and forget? What's one topic being deleted going to do to your life in the long run....?
Regardless of what you think of the legality of emulators and roms, this site and forum are the private property of their owners, and they have set rules, which they have every right to enforce regardless of your circumstances.

Sorry, I failed to notice that my sig was 1 pixel over the limit.  It has been fixed.

Also mentioned in the thread is that you should limit your text if your image is taking up the max height ... so how about making your claim to be faster than he fastest super metroid speed run on one line.
Thanks for the suggestion, and I also removed the space between the line and the image.
