I have a cold or flu or... something.  And I hear grapefruit juice is a good thing for that.  So I'm drinking some.

Oh... my... LORD.  How do people drink something so sour?  Sour is a BAD taste, isn't it?  Surely that can't be something that varies from person to person.  No one drinks sour milk and goes "mmm, tangy".  At least no one I know of...

sigh, well I should get back to drinking as much of this stuff as I can stomach.  It's making me feel a bit better already in fact.

But good LORD.  Why must things that are good for you taste so horrible?  With bodies like this that react so horribly to things that are good for you, how on earth did this species survive so long.

Agggh.  The sour.

my opinion...

that the species is happy is not a requirement for it to continue ... and reproduction is pretty fast and furious without society to hold it up.

those two should take care of it.
Maybe grapefruits weren't always sour... or better yet maybe our taste buds have diminished from what they used to be :P

Whilie it usually isn't the deciding factor, happiness does play a role in survival, at least for humans. A big enough lack of happiness can cause depression, and even suicide. Your statement would be more accurate if it said that the species is happy is generally not the most important requirement for it to continue.

I am actually convinced that it is human nature to try to become happy. True, we may take actions that make us unhappy, but we only purposly do as such if we believe doing so will make us happier as a result. We may think we do things for reasons other than to be happy, but even the most selfless actions are only performed because those who perform them believe doing so will make them happy, even if they are not conciously aware of that belief.

As for the sour grapefruits, we all already know the answer to this. Sess drinks the grapefruit juice to make him feel better. True, he may not like it, but he believes that by making himself temporarily unhappy by drinking it he will feel better, and thus be happier, later. It's a small sacrifice in the name of happiness that he has deemed acceptable.
are you kidding nate, happiness is practically the ONLY thing that determines a species' survival.

a species learns to like doing certain things and not like doing other things, and that is effectively the single determining factor in whether or not they actually do this thing.

Reproduction would be neither fast nor furious if it didn't make us so happy.

also if eating did not make us happy, we wouldn't eat, and we'd starve to death.

so on and so forth.

so yeah, if I did not know that grapefruit juice was good for me, I"d never ever drink it, cause it's so damn unpleasant.  If things that are good for you are unpleasant, you won't do them unless you know better, and we haven't known better very long I think.  Hence my concern.
you only have to live long enough to reproduce to preserve the species.

which means you could practically eat nothing but tree bark and still technically live long enough.

lots of species do things they dont enjoy just to survive. you think the dung beetle likes rolling up a big pile of elephant doo-doo? i dont think so, but he knows if he makes the biggest one, he gets some nookie, which he must enjoy immensely. so maybe it's kind of a balance between doing things you dont like, to get things you do?

anyway...
grapefruit juice is high in vitamins, esp. vitamin C. if you eat a real grapefruit, you can douse it in sugar, and it's not horrible. plus it has some fiber, which the juice is lacking. nothing has been proven to make a cold go away faster, but excessive amounts of vitamin C will give you diarreah. too much of that can dehydrate you. too much dehydration can kill you. have a nice day.

i reccommend hot soup broth, crackers, cold medicine, multi vitamins, and tissues. good company helps too.

At the risk of sounding shallow in the midst of such deep thoughts, why don't you put some sugar in it?

Wow. This has to be the wierdest, most random topic you have ever started Sess. Ah well, i dont really care if grapefruits are sour, i think they taste good.

*goes and eats some grapefruit* Mmm...grapefruit... :P
Our taste-buds, in today's world, are absolute crap compared to what they're probably supposed to be.
Just use sugar.
There is another thing you could try too. Its Honey and Hot Tea. Its not very good, but it works very well. Helps me all the time when I have Dry coughs and colds.

DayQuil and Nyquil rock.  Lemme just say that.  I would never get to sleep when I'm sick if not for Nyquil.
I think you should just get extra sleep and drink plenty of fluids...
But that's just me  Rolling Eyes
I can't get better when I sleep. Because, for one thing. I CAN'T fall asleep when I'm sick. Unless of course, I stay up along time just laying down and drinking fluids. I even sometimes take a sleeping pill.
I can't take sleeping pills, they get stuck in my cheek...  i dunno how but they like adhere directly to my cheek like a tongue to a freezing pole
Did you ever try using water when taking it?
*Pulls out his notepad*
"Note to self, water when taking pills"
Noted
And thank you for the suggestion

DUH!!
lol
Yeah I was sorta being sarcastic.........sorta.
You always have to swallow the pills with water.
Always?...
I think not!
I take my sleeping pills with my favorite energy drink....
wait a second...
energy and sleep?
No wonder they never work!
Shifty Leader
That M2k2 guy
Lol! Okay, Nice thoughts about life and all. I feel sorry for the guy that wanted to talk about dung beetles....

I never drink water when taking pills. I have enough saliva to lube it down. The only problem I have is post nasal drippage (if my nose is runny at bed time) and dry mouth (if my nose is stuffy at bedtime). Both of those can REALLY ruin my day. The drip hurts my throat and makes it all phlegmy, and the dry mouth gives me DEADLY breath!
