To what extent can glitches be used in a speed run of this game? I know in at least one of the movies available on the site uses the Murder Beam to kill mother brain.
...and correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a way with the space/time beam to initiate the escape sequence early? Wouldn't THAT speed thigns up quite a bit?

That was deemed illegal..I'm not positive, but I think it has to do with that glitch not working on the console or something (don't know, never used space/time).
illegal?.. what?  if it doesn't work on the console, it makes more sense.. otherwise, I dunno how it's different than the "mockball", or other glitches used.

exploiting a bug is exploiting a bug, regardless of when/how.
I personally think that the Murder Beam was just out of place... IT took away from the rest of the skill displayed

Well emu runs aren't accepted here nor at SDA, so how are you going to do it?  The gamefaqs people were the ones who originally banned it, because if it can't be done on both, then that is a slightly unfair advantage, no?

And mockball can be done on the console fine, so not sure what the prob is.

If quick fixes to get the end of the game to appear were accepted, wow go 10 second Zelda 3 vid. Zzzzzz.
What's this 10 second vid?  :?

You can beat Zelda 3 like instantly if you hit up and down on the d-pad at the same time or something.
Go through a door via hitting up&down at the same time. Then hit up&down again, you'll end up under the floor. Which means you can walk to walls to end up in rooms in different castles; if you know the correct route you can walk to the triforce room just like that. Note that this involves opening your controller <_<

I think you can also pull this of by saving&exiting in the middle of a jump and starting a new file. As soon as Links hops out of his bed, he'll fall through the floor.

Anyway, check the glitch faq at gamefaqs.

Ready and willing.
It has to be in the right place, however. Basically what happens is that the game gets confused, and some function calls think you're going up while others think you're going down. You do this in Hyrule Castle, at the part where you first go down to the bottom level where there's a path over a bottomless pit. Doing the up/down off the bottom, the game thinks you're going down for the purposes of moving and animation but UP for the purposes of what room you'll end up in. The catch is, you end up in the room above you with the "bottom floor" bit set, so you're actually under the floor. Of course, there's no walls under the floor. Now you can trapise about around the dungeon maps (they're stored in one big map, to save space by locking them together like jigsaw puzzles, making less null rooms). Fortunately for the trick, the final boss room is on this map, and the north side of the room is special; you go north from that room and you get put into the endgame. And the door is only locked from the top... ^_^

Forgive my ignorance, but what is the space/time beam?  I've never heard of it before...

I think what it does (equip all beams at once then shoot a door and go through) is turns back time to the start of the game, but you keep your stuff, and all pickups are back again.

You have to do it a different way on the console or it will lock up the game, so I've never actually done it.

It does, but that version doesn't reset the timer. I understand there is another one that can allow you to prematurely set off the Escape Sequence.
Soooo...
If you Initiate Time/Space Beam at a certain time and place, the escape sequence starts instantly? If so,and it can only be done on an emu easily,it could be an internal glitch. Pretty nifty, too bad I can't try it... :(
afaik, triggering this glitch on speed runs is illegal cause it isn't allowed to do glitches that takes you(or magically transport you)to another world, scene, etc. For sure it would be amazingly faster if we do this kind of glitches.

as the other poster said, it just takes away the skill displayed. Furthermore, the main rule is taking out the four main bosses of the game all the way to mother brain. If this wouldn't be the case, then everyone would have the same records for beating SM in about what? 15 mins? :?

That poster was talking about the Murder Beam though.

I was saying that for both glitches though. It just not right to use them if you ask me...

You don't like the Murder Beam cause you don't use it.  :P

As far as I know, that only works on the emulator. Go to the room before Wrecked Ship, open the door, shoot IceSpazerPlasma beam out in the open, go through the door, all the way back to the landing site. As soon as you enter the landing site, things will start exploding :P
