I knew about this trick for a longer time already, but also thought it would be slower. The recent discussion at TASvideos made me start to doubt, so I went ahead and tested it more carefully to be sure. Now we have the answer.
Almost happy
Though I seriously doubt that it will actually save ~30 seconds. First you loose time on X-ray. (and you loose health which will slow down WS considerably) And you need to magically gather up another 10-15 PB's and 5-10 or so supers from thin air to make the ammo go around. I don't really now where this can be done. It will likely save time in the end but the sacrifices will be very big no doubt.
What'd you say?
Amazing...do people use that glitch for TAS runs?

Ummmmm... it was just now discovered. So no, not yet. That said, I really hope it ultimately saves time, because that is really snazzy. Great work again, Saturn.

(also, offtopic, haven't seen you here in a while, how's the RBO coming?)

Thanks ducknerd.

The entrance itself was actually known for a longer time (discovered by Kej around 2 years ago, IIRC). It's just that it was never performed as fast as possible until I did it, and thus we didn't expect it to ever be faster than the usual way in the end. Seeing that it saves more than 24,5 sec in WS alone makes it clear that it will also be much faster in the end, even with all the delays to get the additional early items included.

As for RBO, it's on hold currently since I work on another project: [noembed][url=[/noembed]. I will pick it up again after I finished Redesign.

Quote from Cardweaver:
I've had ridley get stuck under normal circumstances, but he gets unstuck quickly. He looked like he did in that movie, started moving again after a couple of shots.

i had ridley go down to the right then float all the way to the left side of the screen, but he was facing the middle platform after he stopped. he didn't unstick till i laid a pb. i was rather confused because i'd never heard of it before. until now...

EDIT: not sure if its a glitch but at one point on my TAS 30 i do the mockball with the speed echoes, but it looks like samus stops while morphing. any clues as to what the deal is with that?

EDIT 2: This is what i'm talking about
Trained by Cpadolf. Mission: To Perfect.
It's just because you have a really low speed.

IIRC, if you jump with a speed of .16xxx, and don't press over, Samus will barely move forward, it is a great speed for those tight mockballs.
I think I discovered a new glitch! At least, I didn't see it mentioned in a search of this topic.

Go to a map room. Use the "remote recharge" glitch demonstrated here:
http://www.metroid2002.com/3/speed_tricks_refill_station_remote_recharge.php

Quickly run to the door, but don't go out to leave the room. After the game says "Map Data Access Completed" and it's fading to black, quickly run out the door while the screen is still fading away.

If timed correctly, the map won't show up, and the entire screen will stay black. You'll hear the sound effect of the door closing behind you, and the entire screen will stay black. You can actually play through the game this way. Pausing (or triggering the map terminal and letting the map display) will undo the glitch.

I doubt this has any real value, but it's interesting nonetheless. Any blind people play this game who would be willing to see how far the game will go with the screen black?

i have never heard of this before. but someone else might have.

Right, found out how to get an early missile expansion.

In Norfair, there is a large green room. To the left are three doors. The bottom one leads to a long room, the middle to a save station, and the top to a missile expansion.

However, you cannot get to the top room without first getting the grappling beam to swing over.

BUT!

If you use the Ice beam on the little creatures that fly around and then jump on top of them, you can get onto the floor where the door is without the grappling beam! Yay!!!

I discovered this LOOOONG ago.  You can even jump from the frozen Wavers to the top ledge on the over side to get Speed Booster early.  This is already known by the wall-jump method, but I think my--and your--method is easier.

@chardish

This does not need to be done with a recharge station, it works with just pausing the game and running out at the last moment.

There's also this way of using a damage boost
Here's a glitch that I discovered*.

Very weird, indeed.
Weird...Draygon + shinesparks = all sorts of madness.

What happens if you CF after that glitch?

Huh, is that some kind of cheat or something to not take damage at a certain point?
If you're referring to when I've been gooped and I jump into Draygon, no, that's normal.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
I have a quick question.

When you lay a Power Bomb near Crocomire, he charges left, and tries to crush you into the spikes.

If you went behind him using the glitch that was discovered, could you lay a Power Bomb and have him charge back into the lava, or does he just charge left, as usual?
Knowing a little about how the code works, I'd say he would still charge right.  The action (being hit by power bomb) is the same regardless of which side he got it from.  The only action which makes him go left is a hit to open mouth.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
Well, that's what I thought'd happen, as he essentially doesn't know where you are in relation to him.  Does anybody know for certain?  Oh, and Left <> Right.  Wink
I like Big Butts and I can not lie
He acts the same no matter where you lay the power bomb
I don't know if this constitutes a glitch, but is there a prerequisite for how the Golden Torizo Statue (the one in Norfair to lower the lava) works? I played through The Darkness Spreads 2 and the Torizo wouldn't accept me at all. I tried in other hacks as well (renamed savestates), loaded games, THEN entered that hacks room, and even the original (JU) roms, and the Torizo wouldn't accept me with the current items I had. I know I didn't have the Gravity Suit or maybe the Grapple Beam either. Any help on this?
It only works if you have Space Jump. Not a glitch as far as I know, but who knows why they did that...

They suspect it's a safeguard against sequence breakers in the original game, but it is pretty sick that they actually figured you could indeed get there early. That's probably partly due to testers and mostly from giving the designers enough time to figure that one out. They just don't make games like this anymore. It kind of makes you think Retro might have felt Super Metroid to be an epic failure.

I've found that some golden torizo statues can be very unaccepting.  Perhaps they feel that just because they are GOLDEN torizo statues and not just regular torizo statues that they have some kind of grounds to demand all sorts of prequisites from people.  It's as if Norfair is cut off from the rest of Zebes and they're living in another century or something.  The way I see it, if you politely approach the statue, jump into it's hands, and then morph into a ball then they should be accepting - no prerequisutes required.  I'd expect this kind of intolerance from space pirates or some bitter skree somewhere, but from a Torizo it's a little surprising and disappointing.  They should be accepting of everyone and not judge people based on your current items. Yes, I find their lack of acceptance to be totally unacceptable.
