Yeah, I've encountered this fadeout quirk before. Unfortunately, it's entirely useless as it doesn't save any time (both in-game and otherwise) at all. It just holds Samus longer on one spot instead of moving her further down the elevator.
Yes i was afraid that was the truth, and even if it would have worked it would'nt have been fit for anything but a TAS wich goes for the ultimate ingame time.
Also if you pause just before going to another room (and i mean really close to trigger the switch room scene) the screen stays black until you press start again, have destroyed a couple of my segmented runs by waisting seconds of running in black.
