Each episode tells a story, some of them "deeper" than others in the sense that some are like "oh the Mushi are sea worms that steal people's boats and bring them out into the ocean and they die" and then others are like "Okay these Mushi are in this guy's head and control his dreams and his dreams cause the future to happen and it's always bad so everyone he knows dies"

yeah that's fair enough. It's not like Avatar where it tells a long story from start to finish, or like... MLP with the whole "slice-of-life" thing. It just tells different stories about how these creatures do different things and cause mythological things to happen.

it is very artsy and painty, lots of forestry and it's set in a time before electricity. I'll stop jizzing about it now, if I wasn't lazy I'd give you a link to a stream of the first episode, but I'm sure I'll bug you about it again later.

Yeah it could be cool, but I'm really weird about things like that. I probably could care it about for a few episodes and then never want to see again. But I'm not the biggest fan of Japanese storytelling really, so it's hard to really get interested.
Not that it's bad but just doesn't work for me.

the beauty of it is that it's just based on old folk-tales, so not really just japanese story-telling.

If you look at the "top" anime on tings like MAL it's all that kind of shit. Course though that's just the masses, and we both know the average person is a dumbass, but whatever.

oh and don't get me wrong I'm sure there's plenty of great anime that isn't all power-levels or kawaii or chosen-one crap. I just don't think tbob believes that though.

sort of like me and handheld games. like i'm sure there are plenty of good ones i might enjoy, it's just not really something i'm interested in enough to devote any of my time to.

This is accurate. I mean I actually do try to give things a chance before passing any real judgment on them, but in some cases I don't actually care enough to have a real opinion.
