Wasn't saying you did, but what I am trying to say and sort of fucking up, is that if you're going to put things like that in a work you have to understand what makes it effective, what it means, what it's actually portraying, and what purpose it has in this situation. It's not the kind of thing you just throw around to show that "These guys is bad!" not the kind of thing you want to undermine accidentally cause you can't make a guy scary and bad without using gender as a crutch. Similarly having a women totally beat a creepy raper guy up isn't really empowering or anything if you keep putting her in situations where she has to do it. It can be complicated stuff and very few developers can really handle it. Cause they are lazy nerd shits.

i agree with you on all points then. i guess i just don't see how using sexual assault in far cry 3 is somehow inappropriate. if the guys are supposed to be evil, abusive men living in an evil, abusive community on this fucked up evil, abusive anarchy island ... shouldn't we be seeing that? it sounds to me like you're just dismissing it automatically because it shows sexual assault.

also don't think it's necessary to explain why bad guys are bad. showing them doing bad things is enough to make me feel they're bad.
what i do think we'd both agree on is that it's kind of stupid when developers linger the camera on the woman's tits or something. still, i don't really have a problem with it. i just think it's dumb and lazy.

ok yeah i see what you're saying now. guess it just doesn't bother me much. i do agree it can be handled better though, and in some games it is. naughty dog looks like they're going to do a good job with the last of us in giving us a young female protagonist and making us care about her rather than viewing her a sex object (it also helps that she's like, twelve). really excited for that game.

one way to look at it i guess is that if you see the bad guys are sexually abusive, you'll hate them more. in that case it's up to the developers to convince us to do that, and if they can, i think that's great. just because 14 year old boys might get off on it doesn't mean it shouldn't be in the game. 14 year old boys will get off on anything.
