by earlier i mean 9 and before i guess
I've only played Phantasia and Eternia, so I don't know too much about the series. Hated the former, liked the latter.
I like turtles.
XIII gets a lot of hate but I rather like it for the same reasons most people don't - that is, it's more of an interactive action sequence than a typical RPG.  I never finished it because it gets grindy quite abruptly at a certain point, but I quite liked it compared with the other FF titles I've tried.

turtle yes that is exactly why i want to play it

it's this sort of game where you can sit back and be lazy and chill while playing

then there's this crazy, cheesy, and awesome story presented in good looking cutscenes
red chamber dream
i watched my brother play it some and it was fucking great
I'd still recommend that you start off with Chrono Trigger, then move on to FF6 and FF9.

Well, I don't know that I'd say the story is my favorite ever, but it's another element of the game that I think is better than most people do.

Chrono Trigger is decent.  Really enjoyed the Double/Triple Techs, good soundtrack.  The thing that killed it for me was what ends up killing most JRPGs - the grindy, tedious endgame.
FF plots tend to be hit or miss. The latter ones get a LOT of flak, especially X. That one I can definitely say is horrendous presentation-wise.

well it's just over the top in a good way. of course it's not over the top according to its japanese writers, but we perceive it that way and it's awesome

i can really get into some of the lamest rpg stories, like tales of symphonia

CT has like zero grinding, though.

I guess I'm doing the end wrong, then.  Like, confronting the floating palace thingy or whatever.  The very first battle you fight when you get inside is just

.____.

Maybe it bothers me even more when a game isn't grindy for most of it then suddenly becomes grindy farther in.  Probably because that builds up my hopes.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
You are just doing it wrong. There is literally no reason to grind in Chrono Trigger.
red chamber dream
ok maybe i will try that one first then

it's on virtual console right?

I like turtles.
Yup.

My roommate would probably refuse to buy it because of the Lufia vs. Chrono Trigger debate (in which he sides with the former) and I'm too cheap to get it myself.  Otherwise I might've tried it again by now.
Yep. Stay the fuck away from the PSN version.
red chamber dream
waaaait why?
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Like it's not even my favorite RPG of the era and I do have some issues with it but grinding is not one.
red chamber dream
would much rather have it on psn
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Load times out the ass.
red chamber dream
da fuck? on an old snes game?
red chamber dream
how is that even possible lol
No, on the PS1 port.
