Mister ...
If I wasn't moving this weekend, I'd be all over making tiny 32x32, or even 64x64 icons.
red chamber dream
48x48 would probably be best, as that's what the others are. okay, they're actually 48x47, but whatever.

I've made a few simple icons in case you want to use them. And if you do like them, suggest what other aspects this ranking should cover.

Not impossible
just highly unlikely
Just checked out the Bit Trip Beat and My Life as Darklord demos on WiiWare. I will purchase neither, but it's nice to see Nintendo finally step up, even if it's only for a few games and only 'for a limited time.'

Huh.
- Bomberman 64 is not on the list.
- Pong is 27 ranks higher than Yoshi's Island.
- No Donkey Kong Country game is on the list.
- Jumper is not on the list.

Trying to universalize the gaming industry is pretty ridiculous, though.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Quote from Prime Hunter:
Well yeah, there's definitely nothing wrong with that considering the thousands of games that have been created over the 30+ years of gaming, to mirror what Gamma Metroid said. I just hold some, like X-COM and Yoshi's Island, in very high regard and wouldn't even consider many of the ones on the list.

Oh, I get that, X-COM would have been top ten at minimum if I'd made the list. It's just that I don't expect it to get the kind of recognition it deserves from most as it is rather old and doesn't have the wild popularity of Zelda, Mario, or even a lot of old arcade games. So for me even 164 is a victory.

I'd have put it on the list <3

I have a question about guitar hero that perhaps someone might know the answer to.

How come sometimes I get a 100% score for the song even though I missed a note or two?

This game called Dark Void looks like it's gonna be pretty good.  It's a third person shooter that reminds me of the prime series, especially echoes since it looks like there is a dark world (maybe you cant go to it, but apparently there is a dark gateway that your enemies come out of).  You travel on foot but you also have a jet pack!

NA release date is Jan. 12th.  Definitely looks like it could be a winner.

yeah, really looking forward to dark void. right up there with bioshock 2 for me as far as 2010 goes.

I'd recommend the first on the SNES, but most of them got a bit gimmicky after that.

I can only guess that it's rounding up or down: 400 notes, with 2 missed = 99.5% = 100% rounded up.

With Corruption finished I figure I'd just give my thoughts on the game here since I guess that's the kinda thing this topic is for or something. I don't know.

The game felt really FPS-y at times, the protect the pod with the super nuke bit on Elysia and the escorting of Fed troops on the Pirate Homeworld would be particularly jarring examples. But other than those two parts it seemed "Metroid" enough for the most part, more Fusion than Super but still nothing too bad.

Not sure how I feel about the planet hopping in general, the Knights of the Old Republic games showed it was do able in a less linear style so I'm sort of upset that this game didn't try to go in that direction, but those games kept your planetary exploration to fairly small areas on each planet so I imagine that you'd need a much bigger game to really pull off that kind of planet hopping properly. Part of me feels that Norion needed to be combined with another planet, if not several other planets. It could have worked as part of Elysia, combining two one dimensional planets into something pretty cool. Bryyo was pretty sweet though, it was definitely the most fleshed out planet of the group; it had the confined, fiery caves, open jungle and a little frozen tundra on the side. A sort of baby Tallon IV and as a result the most Metroid of any of the locations in the game. I liked Elysia quite a bit as well, a little more Echoes than I'd like, but that's more of a knock on Echoes than it is Elysia. SkyTown was really cool aesthetically and there was a couple neat boss fights. Pirate Homeworld wasn't bad, but didn't really have the character that Bryyo and Elysia did, though there's something about the Pirates getting around their homeworld by train that's incredibly amusing to me.

My biggest disappointment with the game was, oddly enough, the lack of the "flavor scans" the previous two games had. Misadventures of the Pirate science team being hopelessly retarded and warnings that Metroids were not meant for target practice and "Ok so apparently injecting Pirates with Phazon turns their brains to mush, but it also makes them totally huge and strong, clearly we must not be using enough!" were part of the charm of the first two and really made Echoes more entertaining than it should have been. Pirate Homeworld was begging for this treatment, Retro really missed an opportunity there.

Sort of related to that, the Metroid Research area on the Homeworld was very well done. The notes on different kinds of 'troids were nice as was the metroid fanwanky-ness of it. The Metroid areas as a whole were actually very well done, I thought. The crumbling dust corpses scattered all over were great, especially when you open that first door to the Metroid lab on Elysia and you just see this vaguely human shaped dust plume and this odd noise. It was a great set up for a very atmospheric area, Retro does the "Completely wrecked up place you probably shouldn't be" thing very well and I wish they did more of it throughout the series. On the other hand, the great set up makes the actual 'troids more disappointing whne you find out they are actually stupid looking and completely ineffective. They were perfect in Prime, Retro, how'd you mess that up?

Speaking of ineffective, how 'bout those missiles, huh? Only thing more useless were the ship missiles. The items in general were pretty lackluster, I can't help but think Retro just didn't know what to do item wise and decided throw a bunch grapple upgrades and hoped you wouldn't notice. Well, I did Retro, now give me my power bombs back. Pretty cool how half of the items were redundant too, Hyper Missiles whee~! The Hyper Ball was the only one remotely justified, the rest were just lazy. Hypermode was ultra cheap anyway, it didn't need the added items I never used.

I was going to say I really liked the bosses, but actually not many stand out now that  Ithink about it. Ridley 1 was fantastic, pretty silly at times like when he's just sitting there charging up his pimp hand, but it was well done and I had a lot of fun with it. One of my favorite fights in the Metroid series. Omega Ridley was pretty much Prime Meta Ridley with a couple Corruption gimmicks, but that's fine because Prime Ridley was great. Other than that the Hunter fights were pretty good, aside from Gandrayda, who was annoying at best. Moegnar was a dick move by the devs considering the amount of precision required and the lack of energy tanks for Hypermode in a fight where it's required. So two bosses I'd classify as bad, the rest were inoffensive leaning towards good, I guess. I suppose I should credit the Aurora fight for being cathartic as hell considering how badly I wanted to murder that other AU for talking so damn much.

Overall, I liked it. A couple points that kind of frustrating a couple dumb things that don't really fit and far too much talking. But the core gameplay is solid and when it's on it's great when it isn't it's pretty average. I'd certainly play it again, but no way in hell would I consider 100% ever again, too many missiles and ship missiles that don't ever get used. Special shout out to all those things that are immune to missiles by the way, that did you guys a whole lot of good didn't it?
red chamber dream
heh i definitely think the lack of decent/creative items was the game's biggest detraction. i actually wouldn't have had a problem with all the hyper weapons if they were actually used a lot in puzzles or combat (doesn't even have to be both!). problem is that normal hyper mode is plenty powerful, so using missiles or whatever isn't very helpful.

i really need to play it again sometime.

I think one of their biggest mistakes was the voice acting.  If that's what the future is going to hold for the series then so be it, but they shouldn't have had it in corruption.  This game had all the pressure of a threequel against it: the finale of an awesome trilogy that had to wrap up loose ends, the introduction of the series to a new console & control scheme, and alot of people wanted to see if retro gave a crap about the reaction to MP2 and adjusted their direction accordingly.  My point is, it was set up to be heavily scrutinized before anyone even picked up a wiimote.  It was a bad time to introduce all that voice acting or any other concept that could be easily called un-metroidy. The constant communication with the AU's combined with your freedom to move between planets killed your sense of isolation, which is again quite un-metroidy.

When compared to MP and MP2, the game is not as good.  Retro knew that it would be compared to those, so I'm not sure if they had time constraining their brains or what.  On it's own it was a damn fine game though.

Some things I would have changed about it:

The game should have been darker than the first two.  MP2 was pretty dark and I really liked that.  When the climax of the trilogy is a planet made of pure evil that turns living things into homocidal maniacs then I think the tone of the whole damn game should be pretty damn freaky and each planet you visited should have shown you the very freakiest of what phazon was about. The only freaky part was the metroid lab on Elysia and the wreck of the Valhalla.

I wanted to see upgrades that I wish would have been in the first two games.  MP2 did this: dark and light suits were dope, ability to shoot/change weapons while grappling, boost off of spider tracks, etc. were all things that you can't believe weren't in prime.  There is nothing in MP3 that I wish was in the first two games. If they couldn't come up with something that they knew we would like, they could have even re-introduced some of the things from Prime that we missed in MP2, perhaps one of the beams, since they already knew we thought that game was damn near perfect. The one and only thing in MP3 that I wish had been in the first two was spring ball - and lo!  we have it now.

Learning something new everyday. What creeps me out is that I'm actually sure to have been there, the message saying the guy's name is just missing in the PAL version.

I've probably ranted about Corruption often enough, so this'll do for my opinion:

un-metroidy

But Bryyo is fucking awesome and the only reason I would ever feel like replaying Corrpution for.
Meh. I thought Bryyo was pretty bland. The only locale that stood out in Corruption for me was Phaaze and certain areas of the Pirate Homeworld. The deserted frigate was cool too, but not nearly as tense as the frigate Orpheon.

It mentions about loadin gerrors, but you can access it quite easily without any glitches or errors.  All you need is to have acquired the Pegasus Boots.

Me makes a vid for demonstrating above true words for you:

Eh, I've already seen vids of it. Thanks for the trouble of making one anyway. :p

No trouble. =)

My videos on YouTube are pretty much all little tricks / tidbits for games, and I usually create one when an idea comes up, so I should probably thank you for the idea. =)

It definitely suffered from Twilight Princess syndrome, they give you a bunch of shit but almost none of it is useful barring one or two points where some arbitrary obstacle requires it.

It actually took me a long time to start using Hypermode at all, it's weird having "Win the game mode" available from the start. If they made you actually work for it it probably would have been better or at least it'd have felt less cheesy. Then X-Ray/Nova Beam happened and everything got silly.

It was way better than 2. I could actually see myself replaying 3 but I can't for the life of my get through Echoes a second time and I can, and usually do, replay anything.

How could you possibly....nevermind.  I am curious as to whether you have played MP2 enough to actually always know where you are and where you are going, as I'm sure you have with MP1.  If the answer is no then I can see why you hate it.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
The problem is that I could play Prime enough to know it that well. I honestly can't do that with Echoes, the beginning is so completely terrible that I can't do it.

Mega Man 10 (still 8-bit) has been announced by Nintendo Power, with the first confirmed robot master being Sheep Man. I'm sure the resident Mega Man fans here are excited.

SHEEP man?  LOL

Looks like after so many games they are running out of ideas.  It would be fun to have a mega man robot naming brainstorm like the from a long time ago regarding future castlevania titles.

I know that only like... two people in here care about Mega Man, but I want Capcom to have my babies right now.

Inti's making it, I assume.

8-bit style.

Proto Man playable right from the start. Third playable character unrevealed.

New cover art is even weirder than MM9's:
