Could be multiple types of UFOs I think, although either way unless you bring more than one Interceptor in on the larger ones with starting equipment they're going to take a beating at least. And then there's just some you'll want to avoid until you get better aircraft and/or weaponry anyway since even they can take quite a beating against the largest UFO classes in the game.

Do you remember if the info came up as a Medium or Large UFO when it first appeared?

Depends, if your interceptors have two Avalanche Missile Launchers mounted sending both after a large UFO (NOT Very Large, this is important!) should be able to take it down with no damage, if you have them keep their distance. Though switch to aggressive on the last missile though because otherwise it will miss 100% of the time.

Alternatively, have the Skyranger follow the UFO and see if it lands. The Large ones can be a problem until you have better weapons for your aircraft.

Heh, pretty different strategies we've got between us here. I don't think I've every used Avalanches that much which is why I forgot they have a pretty good range. But yeah, if you can get into range with a weapon without a UFO firing back you're golden as long as you can do enough damage to take it down.

Looking at UFOpaedia suggests he was chasing either an Abductor or Terror Ship if it was two stories tall in the preview image you get during interception. All the other larger ones are 3 stories. And yes, AVOID any that come up as Very Large at all costs right now if you get unlucky and one shows up at this stage of the game.

I only use Avalanches until I get the Plasma Cannons actually. It's expensive but it means no added down time for repairs or replacement so I'll take it. They actually have the longest range in the game iirc. I also make damn sure I get some landed UFOs as soon as possible because keeping stocked on those missiles is a bitch.

I think that's why I never used them much before. They only have 3 shots (right?) and early on can be expensive. Although yeah, now that you mention it they definitely earn their money's worth by saving the Interceptors from harm, which also means they can be active more often than not which does make a difference when you least expect it.

hmmm.... i will try the Avs missiles, but i think i will pass on this one, cuz until the avs comes it wiwll prolly go away...

i will keed a intercptor on it's tail to see if it lands, on ground i am being way better than most of the other times, one of my guys even got hit by 3 shots and didn't died...

Haha oh god could you imagine if he had taken down a Terror Ship early on without even knowing it? How bad ass would that be? And then terrifying once it turns out to be Snakeman ship because of course it would be Snakemen.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Get the Skyranger after it too, you'll need it there fast.
3 hits to a soldier and he's not dead, two months into the game? Give that one a medal since that's almost unheard of.

Of course it would be Snakemen if he got lucky enough to take it down before it found a city. That would be the game's way of paying him back for being bold enough to take on a Terror Ship with starter equipment.

If he's still able to go out on missions without time off to heal he is a superhero.

Like give him a name and hide him away forever because he deserves to live.

Like I said, give him a medal and then outfit him with the best armor and weapons you can give him as soon as you can.

Watch, this guy will survive long enough for Psi to come into play and he'll be the first one to get mind controlled or go berserk. You know it'll happen if he gets that far.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Oh absolutely. This UFO he's chasing will land, be full of Sectoids and the Sectoid Leader will mind control that guy first. No way this guy has as PSI Strength above 2.
Oh god, I hadn't thought of that. You can hit Psi at this point if you manage to find a larger UFO can't you?

dunno, he survived with like, 10 hp, i thought he would bleed right after surviving, but he stayed alive the entire battle...

i too, never saw that happening...

i just don't want to see reapers or cyber disks for now, i have LOTs of traumas of reapers killing entire squads...

Depends on if he had any Fatal Wounds or not, which can only be healed with Medi-Kits. Soldiers can still take a ton of damage and then survive for ages if they don't have any wounds. (Can check this by clicking on the box with their name at the bottom of the screen during ground battles and seeing their stats)

And if you get a terror site it's inevitable they'll show up there. One of the few places in the game where those units will make an appearance. Part of what makes terror sites so deadly and so feared, especially early on.

yeah, i know, every time i launch the game i pray that the RNG god don't put a terror site at the night side of the planet...

Reapers aren't so bad. Remember that they can only attack in melee range and aren't that fast and you'll be ok. Just make sure you hit them hard once you spot them because they are surprisingly tough for as early as they appear.

I ran into a Sectoid leader on my very first Terror Mission in one game. He didn't go for mind control but seeing my best soldier get PSI attacked and panic/berserk every turn was alarming to say the least.

Your first Snakeman Terror Mission will be at night. Murphy's Law ensures this fact.

damn.
Cyberdiscs, however, can be deadly throughout most of the game, and early on are absolute nightmares if you don't have better weapons to use than the starter pistol and rifle.

I've also had the unfortunate pleasure of not taking Reapers seriously before and getting destroyed by one or two of them that suddenly appeared from around a corner. Personal opinion is that anything that's not human you treat as a walking death machine until you take it down. Now obviously some targets aren't as deadly as others, but (almost) every alien species is capable of tearing you apart if you give it the chance and the situation is against you.

Oh hey, let me tell you guys about Cyberdiscs!

also, i am always amazed at the open end approach of the battlescape part of the game.

i remember one time, where 2 or 3 muttons stayed inside the ship and guarded the only door to it, it's was almost impossible getting inside without someone dying...

then i got a heavy explosive, and just blew a hole in the hull right behind them with my tank and 2 rocket launchers....
it's possible it was them that i fell in love with the game...
Still doesn't beat that one image I showed you of my first (and only so far) Superhuman difficulty Snakemen Terror Site. (At night too!)
