maybe the fact that people seem to be of the opinion that the internet is the only effective way to spread ideas now is the best argument for it being awful. :v
Too bad it adds absolutely nothing to anything it displays!
Oh, it adds illusion to everything it displays. My eyes have no problem with 3D and I find this feautre quite nice, what would be cooler though is if things can jump out of the screen (like in some rendered movies), not behind it.

Actually, if you focus hard enough, it could pop out of screen... well, at least for Nvidia 3D vision which I have already.
Yeah, yeah, I'm mentioning X-COM again, but this time there's a good reason for it. Just saw this on Gamespot a minute ago and it's already giving me hope that finally someone is going to do things right, and that somebody is Firaxis. I know this is just an announcement more or less, but at this point I can't think of too many other developers that I'd rather have working on a true Turn Based sequel than them.
Thing that gets me though is that they're already targeting a fall launch for Enemy Unknown according to the article, which would make me think they're already quite far into development.
i brought that UFO: extraterrestrials... couldn't keep playing it for more than 30 minutes, hope this one bring a better system while keeping the tense atmosphere of the first one...
really, i had a alien 3 cells of distance from a soldier, and had only 13% of hitting it... WTH man? on the first one, you would got at least 45% from 3 cells!
a single alien killed all the 5 soldiers in the mission because any of them could hit the damn bastard from 2 feet of distance!

Hahahaha on an aimed shot with an above average rookie maybe. X-COM operatives can't shoot for shit early on and until you've got laser rifles you're killing enemies by sheer volume of bullets fired in their general direction. Or explosives.

Got a huge nerd boner right now over this news btw.
That's... basically the reaction I expected, but maybe not in those same words.
But yeah, if my post was any indication, this is probably the most excited I've been for an X-COM remake/reboot over the years because I can't think of anyone else in today's industry more qualified to handle it than Firaxis. I remember they had briefly mentioned the possibility of this game being made back when the FPS one was first announced but until today nothing had come from it as far as I knew.
And yes, that description of how one alien took out 1/2 a dozen soldiers is X-COM at its heart, especially early on.
Oh, and I am still looking forward to the XCOM FPS that 2K is working on. It might not be the same thing but I'll still check it out when it comes out in a few months.
Obviously though the Firaxis one is the one I have more interest in.
it's an old strategy series from the 90s. apparently there's now two new games announced - think the one they've been talking about is another strategy game like the others. the other game is more of an fps, haven't heard anything on it in a while though.
I'm more excited about the FPS part an less excited about the strategy part. I still say wii has the most awesome control scheme for a FPS (point n shoot), but if this series is rooted in PC then the fans probably demand good graphics - which makes wii out of the question.
Pretty sure both XCOM games are for 360, PS3, and PC. I know the Firaxis one is but I'm not entirely sure on the 2K one.
The 2K one is a FPS reimagining/reboot (which has gotten a lot of hate for that, but I'm still giving it a chance) while the Firaxis one is supposed to be more like the original games in the series which were turn based squad combat combined with real time global management of the XCOM organization. Both deal with defending the Earth against an alien invasion.
Yes. I thought that RE4 worked so well on wii that I was certain that RE5 would also be available for wii. When I went to gamestop to pick up a wii copy of RE5, the elitist nerds that worked at that location practically laughed me out the door. I almost told them to fuck off. The dude I asked immediately looked over at his friend and they stared at each other quietly for a few seconds and then both started giggling. Then he tells me in a totally condescending tone that 'RE5 isn't available for WII'. It's not my fault if neither of them can get laid.
And these are the guys selling games... Not doing Gamestop any favors by driving away customers are they?
I'm hoping that the Wii U, with it being an HD system, can put an end to some of that by allowing most multiplatform games to be available on all 3 consoles relatively easily.
well to be fair that game has still got just about the best visuals of any game i've ever seen. there's no way the wii could handle it without it looking like modern warfare 3 does on wii.
can play it on ps3 with the move which works even better than re4's wii controls too.
