isn't god of war the awful taking-itself-seriously-button-mash-bastardization of devil may cry? i thought it was one of the worst games i'd seen when i saw it played on sony's e3 pc years ago
red chamber dream
it takes itself as seriously as a game about a really pissed off human killing ancient greek gods can take itself seriously i suppose. i enjoyed the first one, haven't played the others yet.

It has decent gameplay-mechanics compared to Uncharted and many other games.

Uncharted is like goofy. I don't expect many people to watch goofy.

yeah, but the reason i wanted to check out uncharted is because i's something i haven't played before at all that i want to give a try just because. if i won't like it that'll be fine too.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
I never played the first Uncharted, but the second had me hooked, and I really enjoyed it.  I'd describe it as the closest thing to playing a movie, but in a good way.  I'm itching for the third one to drop in price a little, and I'll grab it then.

When you play the second, remember to pet the yaks! teach

and play marco polo!

the third one's got a nice callback to that

Does it have to be a ps3 game or can it be a pc-title aswell? In case ark should know my suggestion.

heh, i still need to play far cry. i swear i'll get to it soon!
never knew someone made a review of this unnoticed game, not that it can make it justice but anyway

red chamber dream
everyone's heard of far cry, dude. there are plenty of reviews on tons of sites.
I don't know tons of sites but I do know that it is constantly confused with other far-cry-titles, which have nothing to do with this game. Today most of the gamers don't know this particular shooter.
red chamber dream
tons of reviews

think anyone who played games when it came out has at least heard of it. it's always been a pretty popular game.

I guess the problem is that today no one will look it up and assume all the different versions are approximately the same game.
red chamber dream
they reviewed it. they review everything lol.
yeah, I checked already.
red chamber dream
yeah i remember lots of people being really disappointed in far cry 2 for being so different. same with crysis 2.

dying repeatedly and taking way longer to play a game than necessary isn't fun for me.

This is only the case for me when I'm playing something like Pokemon, with lots of emphasis on grinding and RNG-based combat.  When it's something where I know my failures are my own fault, then I take it as a challenge - I'm boneheaded and have to see it through and win.  Like, playing Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin on Hard.  I must have tried and failed hundreds of times to beat the final boss before finally getting it.

On the other hand, if it's something that I find extremely frustrating, and/or if it forces me to go through too much before the part I'm stuck on every time I restart (I'm lookin' at you, 100% Synch challenges in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood), I'm more likely to not bother.

Ark has a pretty good point when it comes to difficulty settings for games. Almost every game nowadays just uses some stupid artificial-inflation in the difficulty to make the game more "challenging". Making the bullets do less damage, the enemies having more health, and them being psychic doesn't make it more fun.

WoW is actually a pretty good example of how to do difficulty settings RIGHT in a game with how they have dungeons set up:
-In "easy" (Looking For Raid) mode, the 'trash' (mobs between bosses) have less health and do less damage. The bosses themselves are weaker and also have less abilities.
-In "normal" (Normal) mode, the trash is normal, and the bosses aren't gimped on health and also have more abilities than the LF version. BUT, you get better gear (394 vs the 382 you get in LFR).
-In "hard" (Heroic) mode, you have to manage the trash well, and the bosses hit much harder and have larger health pools. They'll also often have additional abilities on top of their normal abilities which require extra strategy to work out. of course though the loot is far superior.

I wish more games, like Torchlight or pretty much any RPG/JRPG would do that. Skyrim would have been loads more fun if they made the harder difficulties mean something.
red chamber dream
i'm actually not sure i agree with that. in most cases i hate difficulty levels - it's nice when developers make the game they want to make and balance it properly.

don't see why that would go against anything I Said above. Difficulty levels are for the player to choose how much of a challenge they want, since you can't have perfect balance for every type of person that plays the game. As long as each difficulty is balanced it'd be fine.
god damn. i bought blazblue continuum shift yesterday, and just learned there will be "super" edition coming out soon, with all dlc characters unlocked and an extra character.

at least i know not to buy the dlc chars. ._.
