At least Valve is doing it right, can have your name be whatever you want iirc. You can still loose avatar privileges if you upload pictures of penises or whatever, but they only disable your avatar for a week or two.
it would be a different thing if nintendo marketed the wii u as a children's toy, but if that's the case then stop trying to pull this "family entertainment" bullshit, and stop trying to get bigtime developers to put their first-person shooters on your machine
It's almost like they don't realize the kids who grew up with mario and sonic are all 19+ now. Or maybe they just really don't care, dunno.
it's not that they don't care, it's that they don't realize westerners (ie 90% of their audience) does not give a FUCK about their japanese kawaii drivel
no one fucking wants to see that shit except babies - so either market it to kids, or make a real console, hire a real pr agency, and start making some money
The whole "mii" thing was pretty entertaining for an hour or two. Just trying to re-create characters using their Mii thing. Beyond that though, yeah I certainly agree, it's just annoying.
don't get me wrong, i love plenty of japanese games, even what people might call weeaboo ones (catherine was like one of my favorite games of 2011) ... talking more about nintendo's marketing strategy here
take the friend code thing, i'll tell you why it sucks:
there are two types of people that might play wii u online: children and adults. you don't need to censor anything for the adults, so they're already out of the picture.
okay, so that leaves the children. there are children whose parents will pay attention to what they're playing, who they're talking to, etc. you don't need to worry about them because their parents are doing a good job!
finally, there's the children whose parents don't give a shit. those children are going to be seeing and doing all kinds of shit on the internet, and since their parents don't care, there's nothing you can do for them.
i don't see where friend codes fit into any of that.
it's not that they don't care, it's that they don't realize westerners (ie 90% of their audience) does not give a FUCK about their japanese kawaii drivel
Actually I think the kind of don't care, they've been about Japan first pretty much forever. Other markets are just to make a bit more money. Pretty that's the actual reason Metroid had to wait ~8 years after Super to get a sequel, if it was a series that sold in Japan they'd milk it like they do all the others.
