All I know is there's a Very Good sheep pokemon in it and I feel like the correct way to play that game is catch one of those and leave that horrible world of violence behind by moving to Stardew Valley or something.
wtf has retro studios been up to before working on mp4
dunno

rehiring half their staff maybe
Could be. Maybe the fired almost their whole studio after TF and only did assistance work and ports with a handful of devs
but more importantly where is f-zero!!!
red chamber dream
i doubt f-zero is ever coming back in any sort of major way

seems like it's not and never was nearly as popular as some of the other lesser known franchises that nintendo has resurrected
red chamber dream
but you guys

my 20 year old dream has come true
One shall stand, one shall ball.
F-Zero also has the issue where Nintendo also has Mario Kart and can just, like, make a racing game that they don't have to try to sell anyone on. They could try to grow F-Zero as a franchise but Mario Kart is just right there being easy money.
red chamber dream
yeah and tbh i'd rather play mk

f-zero is just too difficult

i wish echoes were a good game ;(
One shall stand, one shall ball.
I remember back when it came out there was a post your favorite thing from Prime 2 thread and I posted sort of as a goof that I'd been having fun spinning the menus around but I think that is actually the most fun I had with Echoes. :/

At least it being bad kept me from getting my hopes up for 3.

I am actually interested to see his Prime 3 video since in terms of world design it actually seems to offer what he wants out of a Metroid game, but the routing seems like his personal nightmare. And if he thought the Prime 1 map was rough, deciphering Skytown's is gonna be a hoot.
I can barely stand watching the video on Prime 1

he seems to have a weird aversion to "backtracking" even though that's half the fun of prime

like, the reason that game is so fun is that you're constantly going through the same areas, but with new abilities and upgrades, so you get faster every time. and you slowly learn the room layouts, letting you optimize movement more and more. this was the appeal to me even before i knew speed running was a thing

compare the first and second trips through magmoor, for example. that's not boring backtracking, it's super fun

plus you get to actually use the new stuff you've earned to take out weaker enemies and feel like a bad ass in the process. echoes and prime 3 constantly keep upping the challenge, so you never quite get that feeling, until the very end of the game
Wholly agreed. Where do I sign up for your patreon???

haha you know, i've been thinking about doing a video "what makes games great" where i highlight favs like heroes iii, metroid prime, re4 and compare them to games that are just "good"

basically what those games have in common is they give you freedom to fuck with the mechanics of the game to "make your own fun", while still offering a traditional experience to people who don't want to do that

Plus they hand you the Light and Dark Beams so soon there's no ramp up for you anyway. It feels like you're as strong as you're going to get like an hour into the game. There's Super Missiles, I guess, but that upgrade doesn't seem to have the weight it did in Prime 1, and the Annihilator Beam is just kinda worthless? And movement wise there's nothing in Prime 2 that feels as freeing as the Space Jump in Prime 1, because you start with it and the game's built with that understanding. Screw Attack and Gravity Boost are nice enough but their actual use is pretty limited while Prime's Space Jump felt like it opened up the whole world.

It makes the key hunt at the end less interesting than Prime's Artifact hunt because really the only meaningful difference between endgame and early game Samus is you don't take passive damage anymore and your suit looks like ass. It's not the victory lap it was meant to be because you're never going any faster than you did last time you were in the area.

Then Corruption doubled down by giving you the only power up that matters five minutes in. :/
go for it ark!

I never looked at the games from that angle, but you're completely right about upgrades in echoes being kinda pointless
