think poision linked that in the social topic a few weeks back
I kind of roll my eyes whenever people talk about 'world record' completion times.  I swear I've seen people freak out over a 'world record' that I've beaten myself, and I'm not even close to being the best.  I think you just have to surround yourself by people who are easily impressed when you attempt a 'world record'.

well, it matters. it's the fastest time anyone's gotten, so that makes it interesting. the videos are more about detailing all the skips and breaks people found to keep pushing times lower anyway
SM doesn't really have a problem with lack of competition

yeah i mean all the games he talks about are huge in the speed running community, sm, smw, mario 64, mario kart ...
video seemed decent anyway, hotarubi's run wasn't quite as controversial as he made it out to be and obviously I was disappointed at no red scarlet but it was any% focussed and she did 100% so fair enough
wonder whether if he gets round to prime 2 he'll dig out my SDA meltdown
gotta show off the 17% run
with the number of kids trying to make money for themselves on youtube I'm honestly surprised nobody's cold called me for information about my time working on SDA yet ... probably too much like actual journalism for youtubers

lol i hope he does prime 1 and 2

think maybe the hotarubi stuff comes more from the communities of other games hotarubi crushed, dunno though
I just can't be bothered with any aspects of the community except runs themselves, I watch one run on YT and my frontpage explodes with top 10 speedruns, top 5 speedrun fails and top 3 speedrun drama

Thanks GDQ

i don't even watch any runs anymore, but i do still find sequence breaking and skips fascinating, so videos like this are right up my alley

well i still watch new prime any% records but those are few and far between
This might sound weird but I kind of stopped paying attention on SM when everything switched away from in-game time.  I don't understand why.  It was already there.  It was plain, simple, and consistent for everyone.  Now you have to use an emulator timer?  WHY?!
I think it's because in-game isn't accurate, but I'm not an SM player
IIRC he addresses that in the video though

there's also tricks that make one or the other lower, and i think players just preferred real time

plus it seems that's become the standard for speed running. it makes sense overall, really
At some point not beating the record because you only beat it by 59 seconds probably becomes irritating
yeah that's also true
Maybe I'm just nostalgic, but I like the idea of someone killing it on a Super Nintendo, with a Super Nintendo cart and a Super Nintendo controller.  To practice getting that in-game time for years and then have some kid say it's invalid when it's the purest way to possibly play the game just pisses me off.
Real-timing isn't limited to emulation though
well it's nintendo's fault for not programming the counter correctly I guess
pretty sure sm's timer is accurate. it's m2 that has the terrible timer
