I fucking hate xbox.  There's no way for me to hold the controller with my fingers on the RB/LB and the RT/LT at the same time without dropping the fucking controller all the time.  Worst controller ever made.

uh, are there games where you have to press both at the same time? i just use my index finger for both

No I don't have to press both at the same time but it's more efficient to have a finger on each button instead of just using one finger and having to move it around. That's why I hold an NES controller upside down and use my fingers instead of my thumbs.  I never had to use thumbs until shoulder buttons were invented.

Try using your fingers on a dpad some time instead of your thumb.  It's night vs day.
Well, I play all Souls games offline by choice, if that says anything. All you get out of online is awful multiplayer and immersion-breaking messages. Also loads of hackers on PC and probably consoles too.

Don't think you'll even need a manual, the controls and layout are identical to DeS.

Also your NES pad technique is amazing. And I thought I'd seen everything when someone was holding the N64 stick between his thumb and index/middlefingers.
Fuck it.  I'm having so many problems with this game on xbox, and right when I said that I regret not getting a PS3 copy the batteries died on the controller and it was like an omen.  I'm quitting and waiting for a PS3 copy.  Shame, I just beat the first boss for the second time (it crashed right after I beat him the first time) and I was starting to get into it.

I should probably just play it offline then when I get a PS3 copy.

I really wish there was a way to hold modern controllers that way, but there just isn't.  It makes a huge difference on your speed to not have to move your thumb around because you already have a finger on every button.
Unless you really can't stand the Xbox pad, which I highly prefer, I really wouldn't do that. PS3 version has to run off the disc, so it's significantly worse.
Worse as far as?  Like loading times?
Frame rate, load times, performance all around, yeah. PS3 can't install games to the HD off the disc.
I'll try again in offline mode to avoid crashing, and see if I can get used to using just my index finger on the shoulder buttons.  It just feels so alien to hold it that way. I have the same issue with the wii u gamepad but I can't even remember which game used all 4 shoulder buttons so it didn't come up much.

You kind of miss out on a pretty integral part of the gameplay if you do that, though. Summoning other players and stuff like messages and invasions are part of what make the game unique. And the hacking isn't nearly as common as you think.

wow, i use two fingers for the four shoulder buttons too. one per button is just so cramp inducing. it's never been a problem for me in terms of reaction time

I do as well, mostlyb ecause the trigger buttons are often really important, and my pointer fingers can react much faster and more precise than my index fingers.
Well, at least you guys don't claw grip... right?

I think I use that to turn the camera in Souls games while pressing the run button

That's the kind of thing I wish I could do by using fingers instead of thumbs.

I'm getting a PS4 soon.  Gamestop (gag) has a deal right now where you get a refurb 500gb ps4 with 2 preowned games >$40ea for $349.99 usd.  Is this a good deal?  Has anyone bought a refurb before, and if so was it OK?  Is there a better deal you know of?

i'm sure the refurb will be fine. sounds like it depends on whether you care about having a used/console games, and whether just two free games are worth paying the same price as a new 500 gb console costs (also $350). personally, not worth it to me.

i don't know of any better deals atm, but i frequently see deals on ps4 on sites like ign: http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/10/09/daily-deals-ps4-price-drop-bloodborne-25-20th-anniversary-dualshock-4 (that one's no longer available, unfort)

might be worth waiting for another one of those to come around
I don't care about new vs refurb as long as the refurb works
I like turtles.

Quote from Kitamura:
The heroes I used to love were always strong figures that you could look up to. They were different from the heroes of today, who are drawn more sympathetically, and who you’re supposed to have something in common with. To me, a hero embodies the “virtue” that we all have in our hearts. We all have it, but most of us are too embarrassed or scared to show it. In that sense there’s something childlike about heroism. Heroes are the people who are proud to show that side of themselves to others.

Good stuff.  All around interesting conversation on design, narrative, the industry, etc.

You know, ds3 comes out in March April. I should probably just wait until then and see if the game comes in a special edition bundle or something.

All I can find as far as new ones go are COD versions  :(
