Yeah, just because the voice is the same doesn't mean it's the same performance. Tom Cruise has the same voice in every movie, stop hiring Tom Cruise for movies!
Nintendo wants $60.00 USD for Super Mario Maker?! I have to pay top dollar AND design my own levels? $60 for a level editor? I was thinking it would be $30 or $40 max. Ridiculous.
Yeah, I'm not sure they're getting the concept that part of the value of a video game is derived from its design. We're not just paying for a physics engine with every release.
Wanna know the best part though? They don't even let you use all the editor tools at first. You slowly unlock them in REAL TIME over the course of a week. The first day you only get the most basic shit... then you wait. There's no option to skip the waiting.
No other fucking industry or any business does that shit. You don't go to a restaurant and order food, and they only give you a fucking breadstick and say "come back tomorrow for your next piece, and by the way pay full price up front". Or a movie theater only letting you watch 15 minutes each day. It's inane bullshit.
I also heard talk that the levels people put up can charge money for them or something if they're popular enough? Or that Nintendo can charge for them or something
That might be a smart business strategy. People are stupid. Give them too many options with the editor from the get-go, and they won't know what to do with it. Doing it that way enables them to slowly figure things out one after another.

at least let there be an option in the menu then for people who aren't backwards retarded. I'm willing to bet at least half the people getting it are competant enough to use the tools effectively.
When you buy photoshop do they say "whoa there, you're not quite ready yet, you only get the brush tool and selector tool". I realize that's a professional tool and not for entertainment, but that's because I'm having a hard time thinking of what game could do this without it being a total slap in the face.
Quote from arkarian:
poision afaik it's because they're not finished with those features yet
who knows if that's true though ... but really who cares, it's not a big deal
I don't see how you can possibly think this is true. You really don't think they have 80% of the game finished yet, and will finish another 10% each day after, including beta testing it, fixing bugs, etc, each day for over a week?
it'd be like getting a Metroid game and not allowed to leave the first 10% of the game because "We want you to really explore and get a feel for the area first before progessing" and only allowing you to progress after 24 hours have passed, but only to the next 10%.
ALSO keep in mind this restriction isn't for the first 9 days after release. This is for when you BUY the game. If you buy it a month from now, you'll be restricted.
I'm all for tutorials and good pacing, I think the idea in general a good idea to help people really get an understanding of the basics first.
But it's the fact that they FORCE you to do it. They literally think that nobody can possibly be competant enough to grasp it quicker than over the course of 9 days.
I didn't know that there was an actual game that came with mario maker. I have to wonder how good it is because they seem to be marketing the level editor only.
I don't believe that the features you have to wait for are unfinished. That just sounds nutty. I can understand how they would want to expose people to simpler things first and gradually teach so people aren't overwhelmed, but a date timer sounds weird. Couldn't they teach you the first wave and then give you a bunch of exercises that require you to demonstrate your understanding before showing you more? If someone was a quick learner they shouldn't have to wait until the next day for more.
I won't be shelling $60 for this until the verdict is in from gamers about the value. I want to know more about the premade levels. I'm really not that interested in the level editor or playing other people's designs, but that might change once it's been out and I see / hear more about it.
