i think it's certainly a great idea but i would never touch it. it looks like minecraft on steroids. something you'd sink a ton of time into before you realize there are more important things to do irl
There will be a narrative, with a reason for the player’s presence and their activities, and details of various races that preceded you. You won’t be told the narrative, it’s up to you to explore and piece it all together and come up with your own interpretations
that's the reason i want to play. there's actually a goal, and you can stop anytime you want. i'll probably play for like 10 hours before getting bored, but that's enough for me
Well, ask yourself this. What are you going to try to accomplish in this "game"? The way they're hyping it up seems to be that you can "explore" these randomized worlds. Is that really enough to keep you interested in it for longer than a couple hours? Some planets will have red grass, some blue. Some green trees, some pink. Some with dinosaurs, some with ruins. But it's pointless, it has no story, it has no objective. Even Minecraft gives you more of an objective to try and survive and build. NMS is going to be a walking/flying simulator to look at what you can essentailly get anywhere else by hitting the "randomize" button on shit.
If someone made a minecraft mod where it would randomly warp the models of monsters, and hue-shift the textures, throw in different tree models, and let you warp to different "planets", it'd have infinitely more playability than NMS
lets not forget that the company behind NMS is a no-name company that has absolutely no experience with this sort of thing. Can you really trust them to make something that can stand up to the hype they've been marketing?
There is a story and a goal. You're trying to get to the center of the universe, and you're going to different planets to collect resources to achieve that goal. Sounds way more structured than Minecraft to me.
it's hello games, they're well-established and know what they're doing. they haven't made a game of this scale before but so what? you start small, then you make big games. that's what they're doing
And there are countless examples of no name developers delivering on something amazing. Mojang and Minecraft is one of then even. Not saying NMS won't possibly end up sucking but you sound overly cynical about it.
i have no interest in minecraft, so that's not the appeal at all to me ... since forever i've wanted a game where you can jump into a space ship from on land, go up into space, land on another planet and get out
not sure how they could do it though, i would want something realistic where i can fly anywhere i want, and this is the only game ever made that comes close to that
