opium i dunno how many cartridge games you played back in the day but the switch to discs was a big deal in terms of load times

they've become the norm so everyone's used to them now, but shit like banjo-kazooie would load instantly back on the n64
I just didn't care because I accepted that it was par for the course with that technology.  If I wanted to play it, then I will have already decided not to give a crap about the load times.  I wouldn't buy a PS1 and then moan about load times.
Besides I thought PS1 came out before n64
It's two years older.

neither would i ... i've never owned a ps1. i was just talking about why it didn't appeal to me at the time. that's hardly complaining. if you're used to not having any load times whatsoever, load times are a big deal. they're still a big deal to me. i hate load times.
They give me a chance to take a hit, or a drag, or a sip, so I'm OK with them I guess.

haha now that's true
and it's funny how I never really even heard about some of the other consoles from those years.  I've heard more about them today then I did back then, turbo graphics, master drive something or other, etc.
I never had those and I don't know anyone who did.
The Turbo Grafx was fucked over by NEC bringing next to none of its library over from Japan.

same, i had never even heard of the tubo grafx until the wii came out and got some its games on vc
red chamber dream
apparently it was reasonably popular though
It actually sold like hotcakes over there, especially its CD games.

ah, i should have known it was japanese
Then Sega tried to come out with shit like the Game Gear and the 32x... Both failed, lol.
ha I just remembered playing sotn the week it came out and those transition halls that served as loading areas said 'CD' on them and I thought ' Wow, cool!  CD!'
Haha, it's funny how those rooms became staples in Castlevania titles.

I remember trying game gear at Target and was so amazed that it was in color.  I played a sonic game on it for a few minutes.  I never thought about getting it because it was way too expensive, esp for me at that time.
Fun fact: The GBA was pretty much set for release by the late 90s, but Nintendo stalled it because the GB Color was so huge.
I never had GB color.  I thought it looked terrible.
red chamber dream
it was the best thing ever at the time, just like every game boy

I never owned one. I just borrowed old Pokemon games from friends and played them on my GBA.
