Yeah I mean honestly for most releases I don't mind at all. It gives longevity to games and lets developers focus on adding more content to games as time goes on, even if it's just cosmetically. I do think it's extremely stupid that people would pay money to get cosmetics in single-player games... like cmon.

Mortal Kombat was recently criticized for its DLC because it makes executing (no pun intended) fatality moves easier, but I really dont see a problem with that at all.

The Fatality thing is silly because those are consumable items you have to buy so I mean what are you even doing if you're playig MK and having that much trouble performing a Fatality. Go back to Smash scrub lord.

There's always a chance they made that kind of DLC in the time after the development hit the deadline and the discs started getting printed. In that case I don't see a problem

that's almost always the case with day-one dlc. most people who buy games and whine on the internet are just stupid.

I never understood day-one DLCs (well, DLCs in general, but that's a different point,) even with Ryu's explanation. It just feels like a middle finger to the consumer. I miss the days of simply buying completed games, with the notable exception being expansive expansion packs. Emphasis on "expansive".

it's possible to release a completed game and still offer day one dlc though. it just has to truly be add-on content. really i think most publishers do a decent job at this

It may just be my inexperience with recent generations, but I'm not seeing most publishers doing a good job with that. A few, definitely, but most? Could also just be my nostalgia of games like Diablo 2. That expansion pack added literally over 20% more game.

that was before the concept of dlc existed though. expansion packs are not the same as dlc. plenty of strategy games still do traditional expansion packs like always

With development costs continually rising and the sticker price of games getting chapter relative to inflation, DLC is kind of a necessary evil these days. Really the alternative is to raise the MSRP and I'm pretty sure nobody wants that.
