no, that's some serious bullshit right there. "instantly memorable" does NOT make something better. I could bake a shit pie, throw it in someones face, and the disgusting aroma and taste will be very memorable to the person, but they won't turn around and say "This is terrible, but I'll certainly remember it, 8.5/10!".
Pretty much everything Poision said in that post was true, except here's the thing: Minecraft, for me, is one of those rare cases where the game is much greater than the sum of its parts and is for some reason a lot more fun than one might think from looking at it objectively. I've put hundreds of hours into it.
On the flip side, Terraria is a better game by most or all standards, when you compare both. Or rather, considering it handles most things better, it should follow that it's more fun. But my own experience has been a bit different. Terraria is actually quite good, and I've put a lot of time into that, as well. However, thanks to Steam's keeping track of the hours I've put into each game, I can say for sure that the time I spent on Terraria before getting bored (around fifty-five hours) pales in comparison to the time I've spent in Minecraft.
I don't know why this is, because logically it should be the other way around; but Minecraft is the one I just keep booting up again and again.
I love how acquiring a new item in a dungeon suddenly opens new possibilities in the puzzles, and not just opens the next door or pulls you to the next platform.
That's what makes the difference between Lufia and Zelda here. It is the ingredient for a puzzle if the dungeon itself is a puzzle, and I am glad you like it. You can keep the "right" balance as long as it can be solved by ambitious kids since it is an adventure-game after all.
However I have difficulties to estimate the audience when it actually comes to an action-puzzler like TrapThem. While some puzzle-fans consider it a masterpiece some other puzzle-players say it is for hardcores. The possibility-space and repercussions are of course far beyond a zelda-dungeon and cannot be compared. So my actual solution is to divide the levels into action and puzzles. A level can be more action or puzzle heavy (or both for those who want it). I offer multiple solutions whenever possible. And the tutorial teaches you important concepts. I try to make the levels progressively harder. However many levels simply require new ideas to be solved. And requiring new ideas itself does not affect the mesuarement how to scale difficulty, either one gets the idea or not, it is a spontaneous happening. Well, but there might be many who simply won't get the idea. But one thing for sure is that I want people to have this "orgasm" you nicely said, this sense of accomplishment. And I think too easy levels would only fake it. Ok, but these are all mine and none of your problems. If you don't mind I would like you to test the upcoming tutorial-demo(next year) and get some feedback whether they are well teached. So I think they won't get complicated since they will only teach you the rule-set and some important concepts.
I reckon you're just bashing it, 'cause you don't like it.
Actually I did a pretty popular vlog series on youtube back when minecraft didn't even have multiplayer (it got it the week after we started though). I really enjoyed minecraft, it had tons and tons of potential, and notch had lots of great plans. Then he just became lazy and never added anything, and then when Terraria came out we saw what minecraft easily could have been and just never went back.
it's not really, afaik there's no quests or anything. but is that a bad thing? apparently people like it for what it is.
from what i udnerstand there's hardly any interaction. you can beat monsters but there's no point, you can mine blocks and use that to make blocks. that seems to be all there is.

I wish all these multiplayer games weren't so popular. I don't like multiplayer. I feel like it's fucking up gaming.
yeah fuck online multiplayer. people often don't even play for the games anymore, but for the social interaction that comes with them, even if playing them pisses them off. what the fuck?
anyways, you guys hyped for the new final fantasy???
I play video games as a form of escape, and the thing I like to escape from the most is people and all their bullshit. I can't escape the BS if the people are in the game with me!

This is correct. There are mods and stuff available, but it's essentially a giant LEGO set. Build what you want, where you want, how you want.

This.
Hey, Opium, we think the same, so maybe we should play together? No, wait a second. Argh! We're getting into paradox territory!
Have I mentioned how cool this remake of Simon's Quest is? Better controls, graphics, music, new bosses even. If you don't want to use keyboard then JoyToKey works great to program your gamepad with.

Ugh yeah I know, it's like those fuckers that go see movies just to hang out with other people. What assholes! They don't appreciate the art of video games like *I* do!
That comparison doesn't work unless one goes to the movies for the purpose of escaping people - which isn't really possible. It's always been possible with gaming, but the increasing popularity of multiplayer threatens that. I don't look down at those who like multiplayer, they just have a different goal in mind when it comes to gaming in the first place.

haha, oh man I'm like the polar opposite of you guys when it comes to that. I can't stand playing single player games anymore, unless I'm playing them with a friend or something (like if they're playing it as well). I just feel like this hapless nooblet if all I do is play games by myself and don't interact with anyone, its like just masturbating yourself all the time. My english teacher called me a "social animal" though which applies pretty well, so I think it's certainly a per-person kind of thing. I'm not saying single player games are only for social-rejects, but they're just... meh. I got really into Bastion but that's cause my coworker was into it at the time as well, and we talked about it and the things we were doing etc. So we turned it into a social thing, kinda.
It's very much a personal prefrence thing, but it's very apparent that the social gamers far outnumber the anti-social ones. You guys should try social gaming with some friends though, I'd highly recommend starting with Left 4 Dead (2), or maybe TF2 or Portal 2. Gaming is way more fun when you can share the experience with a friend.

fuckin' NOPE.

I like both multiplayer and singleplayer games. Both are entertaining, just in different ways.
Exactly. Especially when the ones I'm playing multiplayer with are family members or real life friends. It's the random people online that bug me for the most part because a good portion of them aren't the type of people I want to be playing games with. But there's always exceptions to that.
I probably wouldn't mind being able to play multiplayer games with some of you, for instance. Of course, forum discussions and in-game discussions aren't the same thing so I could just as quickly change my mind if I was ever in that situation.
as much as i dislike multiplayer i actually quite like co-op games, playing portal 2 or something with someone from here might be fun. but no one has the ps3 version, boo.
