it's prolly the only game that the bugs are so absurd that the devs would be detracting of the game if they fixed them... and of course, i still didn't see any game breaking bug, just hilarious glitches like this one...
I love how when, after a good 10 seconds of the guy spinning, he starts floating into the air. Only THEN does the bear seem to decide: "Uh... maybe I shouldn't go after this one" and proceed to attack the player.
The funniest bit for me is that the end, just after the player has killed the bear and approaches the guy on horseback. He just goes 'ahem', like he's clearing his throat as if nothing happened.
Playing Mario Kart DS online again after a few years Hiatus. What a load of bollocks all these people disconnecting are. They are probably little kids who have the mentality of "well if I can't win then I'm not going play so ner !!". and seriously I'm not even snaking or hardly ever boosting round corners either. I use big heavy kart that tears it up on the straights and that's it, requiring almost no effort to win. Fuck the lot of them ! .
Well funny enough it was a few years back when there were more snakers playing (which isn't cheating but an exploitation which Nintendo accepts), the majority of them must have left because of the tedium of it, or still too many noobs playing etc. But now it's almost primarily noobs or kids playing with shit staying power. They probably just look at my score which is only 654 wins - 230 losses and assume I'm some kind of cheater. Granted I got that score through me old snaking days, but I make a point of not snaking against these kids and try to play at their level as best as I can. They put a false two and two together: His score + he's winning = must be cheating, I quit.
Heh, can't remember the last time I've played MK DS. That game was my obsession about four years back. I beat all the staff times, beat all the missions and cups with a 3-star rating, and barely played it again afterwards. My thumbs were just too sore from all the snaking :(
EDIT: Wow, it was 6 years back actually. I forgot the DS is that old now.
Games should include a feature that recognises when you quit before a game is considered complete, and should reduce your rating / credibility. For example, in Mario Kart, if you manually quit (not getting disconnected!) before the completion times list is displayed, then you should get your rating lowered. The same for shooters: If you quit before the win / loss screen, you should be penalised. They'd soon learn when nobody wants to play with them, and they keep getting booted from games. Perhaps even include a feature that gives you a reason for being booted. "You have been kicked from this game due to your low credibility."
I think MK DS already penalizes disconnecters that do it during the races by adding a loss to their score. But it doesn't do it if they disconnect before the start of the first race. So yeah most people quit during any of the 4 races and lose points. But they don't seem to care...
I get ticked at games that penalize you when you do nothing wrong and are randomly booted from a server, but it still counts as a loss. In some games this can be quite annoying, especially when each game is vital and contributes to the upkeep of a team or something like in some of the newer sports games.
But yeah, I haven't played MKDS in a few years now, but I'm highly interested in MK7, especially after hearing that they seemed to have collected a great set of retro tracks this time around too. (Go SMK's Rainbow Road!) I wonder how well its online is going right now.

The multiplayer feature on Phantom Hourglass pissed me off so bad because of that crap. People didn't want to take a loss, so right before they are defeated they hang up. I used to get SOOO pissed and wonder why the hell nintendo didn't think about people doing that before they designed that shit. I ended up paying someone on ebay for a save file which contained all the rewards from the multiplayer mode.

mario kart wii already does this. i remember losing tons of points because of connection errors and that pissed me off so i stopped playing online. this method only works if the system can tell who disconnected on purpose and who got internet screwed.
btw, MK7 so far feels a lot better. the system doesn't penalize you if you get an error and people don't seem to disconnect anymore because there's no more SSMTs around (that's snaking for anyone who doesn't play MK competitively) and they just leave after one round. people with low scores stick around too, which means they're not bad losers.
i only played mkds online back in late 2005/early 2006 and stopped fast because i couldn't keep up. i returned for time attack in 2008 but got tired by 2009.
Hehe 2008 - 2009 was the time I was playing competitively. I gave the top notch players a run for there money but my god they were good. Their technique of snaking was flawless, seemingly not losing speed round difficult parts, clever with weapons. One guy don't know if anyone remembers his picture was of knuckles (or was it sonic). Probably the best player I ever had the misfortune to race against online. At least a player who I'm fairly sure hadn't hacked his game or whatever...
I have to say I do prefer the Wii game to the DS one. I'm happy that the snaking possibility was removed in all honesty and the time trial aspect was awesome. Even though world best times were pretty much not worth trying to beat. Also the weapon system seemed fairer and I like being able to regularly block a red shell with a banana or a green shell.
Still, the assets of MK7 mentioned, pique my interest even more
That's interesting.... I just noticed that Retro Studios had a hand in MK7's development in some manner, supposedly something to do with the tracks amongst other things. Nothing big it would seem though from what I just read.
