You mean none of you guys have gamecubes?  hell, I have three.
red chamber dream
i've got one that's been great so far but you never know when something is going to shit out on you. not having anything that plays gamecube games would be tragic
I've had one gcn shit on me over the years, and that was when it was only a couple of years old. The second one I had was destroyed by a special needs child that I let play it.  The third one, which is the one that I play now, has been working great for a very long time.  I just wish I hadn't gotten high and thought it would be cool to put a zelda skin on it.  It kinda contrasts between all of the other electronics by the TV now. The last gcn I have is the Metroid Prime gamecube bundle - still unopened.
I have the GC my family got at launch and it still works great last I knew. I think the only systems we have that don't run anymore are our first NES after I dropped the power pack on it when I was little, my GBA which randomly stopped working one day, the launch Wii we purchased through eBay after I barely missed one on launch day (it played all of ONE HOUR of Wii Sports before it wouldn't read any discs), and a 360 which red ringed on us early last year. Otherwise everything we've bought still works to this day no matter how old it is, thankfully.

oh, maybe I was wrong then. Did Pikmin 2 have a wii version released at some point? Maybe I was actually playing the wii version, idk, it was like 3 years ago.

Starcraft 2 is only $30 right now. Very worth it, even if you only do single player with all the mods and stuff. Ended up buying two so my friend could play with meh since I'm terrible.

think only the first one got a wii release - i need to find time to play it sometime

ah yeah for sure. I'd recommend starting with the second if you haven't played either though, it just adds and improves on a lot of things and was a lot more fun. If you think you have the time for it though then going in order would be better to fully enjoy both, but you seem to talk about not having enough time for much anyway.

but yeah, Pikmin 2 was probably one of my favorite GCN games. It was like this awesome RTS-but-not exploring hybrid thing.

oh i've played both games to death, i just want to try it with wii controls. disagree about starting with 2 though ... if you do that it would be tough to go back to 1, and the first is a great game. i also kind of like how simple the first game is. the second was definitely a better game but having 5 pikmin types got a little annoying to manage.

ah okay, the first always seemed a little too simple for me (although I didn't play it much, maybe it picks up later), but a very large part of the appeal for the second was the exploration and just finding random shit everywhere. The humor was great too.

I never got why they didn't make a Pikmin for the DS, the touchscreen seemed perfect for it. Maybe they'll do one for the 3DS though. Dammit nintendo, I want to want a 3DS so bad, but there's just nothing I'd play on it.

pff haha, glad I bought this for $2, still not sure if I'll ever play it.
I had a blast playing Pikmin 1 for the first time through Gamefly a few months back, but I haven't been able to get 2 from them yet because they seem to only have a few copies or something. It's never available.

Personally, I don't see why someone would want to start on the 2nd game in any series if given the option to play either of them, especially if it's more complicated. Better to learn the system with the 1st in my mind.

well, some people don't really want to put THAT much time out for one game. Some people just want to enjoy a game for what it is and not have to bother with the older ones in order to appreciate the newer one.

eg, I wouldn't tell someone to go play the original starcraft before playing starcraft 2, since the second just improves on the first in every way. Or like with the Elder Scrolls series where each game can literally have hundreds of hours of content. Or hell, even the Pokemon series. They're all pretty much exactly the same, but as you get towards the newer ones they just improve a bunch of little things and improve the graphics as well.

On the other hand, if the game is very story focused, then yeah for sure they should play the first before the second (eg, Witcher 1 + 2). That's the same deal with movies, watching the Lord of the Ring series for example in order would be very important to understanding wtf is going on. However, if the first and second LotR movies were the same thing, but the second movie was made 6 years later, had much better effects, was more entertaining, and didn't even follow the same story, would you still say the person should watch the first before the second? Movies are kinda different in that they're only an hour or two long so maybe they aren't the best examples.

i pretty much have to play all the previous games in a series before playing a new one, at least if the stories are somewhat related. that's why i haven't played any of the mgs games yet

btw did you watch fargo?

won't have time tonight, going to bed right after I finish checking things online. I was supposed to pass my friend in LoL while he was asleep, which would have been really easy, but I forgot that after 3am the only people you get paired with are Koreans that speak in squares, so I lost a lot of games and didn't get anywhere.

I'll probably end up watching it after I watch the new MLP episode. gnight.
Almost happy

The music and sound effects are 10 times better in SC1, though. It's also arguably a better competitive game at the very top level, but that's only relevant for an extreme minority. Any new player would definitely have a lot more fun with SC2.
my umbrella goes directly to Bankai
Pikmin 2 for Wii was only released in japan and Europe. stupid NoA.

That's why the didn't, it's too obvious and not ~innovative~ enough. Now Zelda with just a stylus, THAT'S ~innovation~!

Guess I was thinking of games that have connected stories for the most part, or something... Not entirely sure since you bring up some good examples such as Pokemon. Plus the fact that I know I've broken that before myself. (Fallout New Vegas for instance without playing ANY other Fallout games before.)

fallout new vegas is actually better if you don't play the first 2, cuz then you will not miss the very good dark humor jokes of the game that is almost non-existant in 3 and NV...

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/121/1213409p1.html good stuff
Other than the suggestions listed in the article, who would be in a Sony Smash Bros style game in order to get to the supposed 20+ characters mentioned?

My mind went immediately to Ratchet and Clank, Sackboy, and Hale (I think that was his name) from Resistance for some reason. They're all exclusives right? I could almost see Snake in there to despite MGS not being Sony exclusive anymore.

haha sweet. I wonder whats up with the sudden surge of fighting games getting all popular. I'll have to try one some time I suppose.
Anywhere, everywhere
Beat Uncharted 3 and Batman: Arkham City.

Uncharted 3 had the amazing setpieces and action that makes the series so fun, but I felt the story took a step down from Uncharted 2.

Arkham City is incredible: probably my game of the year. They took a great game and made it better in every way. It's also the best Metroid game we've seen in a number of years. :P
