also jesus christ edge's writing is almost unbearable
Pity the Deku Baba, Hyrule’s answer to the Venus Flytrap. Encountered early in the majority of 3D Zeldas, it has become a guinea pig for Nintendo’s keenest innovators. Slicing its stalk in Ocarina Of Time proved Nintendo’s Z-targeting had successfully tamed the wild frontier of 3D thirdperson combat. Thirteen years later, cold steel cleaves its head right along a slobbering jawline and you learn – with a slowly widening grin – that Nintendo has repeated the trick with motion controls. We’d salute the troubled flora if it wouldn’t result in Link chopping his own ear off. Such are the risks of one-to-one motion tracking.
Since the ill-starred Skyward Sword E3 reveal, a din of control concerns drowned the dialogue around the game. As satiated dissenters descend into a revered hush they will discover what simmers beneath: this is a radical departure for Zelda.
I'm all for a little pleonastic verbosity, something loquaciously prolix, in writing, but when it gets to the point where you have to slow down to read something, you've gone too far. That is stupid.
it's like in 8th grade when they tell you to use big words and to sound fancy. guess no one told him in high school that's it better to just be simple
nothing wrong with having a robust vocabulary, but yeah that kind of thing should be saved for writing formal articles about science or w/e, not vidya gaems
I can appreciate a bit of flowery prose, even in writing about a videogame. As long as it doesn't get out of hand, which it definitely did at a some points in that review.
You can only really talk in that way about the artistic merit of a game (art, music, etc.). Games are software, you judge software on how well it works and achieves its purpose. Tech talk.

i disagree - you just have to use them in a way that makes sense and sounds good. using "fancy" words for no reason is fucking dumb.
So Square Enix released the full opening cinematic for the next Final Fantasy installment on the PSP.
http://www.gametrailers.com/video/japanese-full-final-fantasy/723138 Visually it isn't bad at all, and it seemed like it was going to try something new with the final fantasy thing. But then the typical animu stuff starts up and then you realize that it will be exactly the same as every other JRPG.
This guy's comment sums it up pretty well though:
Quote:
>opening tries really hard to be tragic >guy in hood is all covered in blood, the fighting is desperate and brutal
Hey, this is kind of different from the typical anime shit
>suddenly, fabulous teens pass over his dying body >teen boy with super kawaii desu bishonen haircut and perfect skin, who smiles like a dipshit each time he's about to fight while holding his sparkling weapon on his shoulder like a complete asshole + smart and serious long haired girl with glasses, and talks by staring off into the distance because of how mysterious she is >these are going to be the protags >square enix
I like how they keep cutting back and forth between dead guy and the chucklefucks.
Dudes, look this is all DARK and SERIOUS- *~*ANIME*~* But for real it's pretty dark, see this guys dead and shit have more *~ANIME*~*!!! I mean it was hard enough to take seriously when the chocobo showed up in the first place but then all anime broke loose and welp.
But good goddamn does Squeenix know their audience, they will buy the shit out of this thing.
the new humble indie bundle is up. Only one game to start with, but it looks like they're going to add the Binding of Isaac along with it, but that's just a "rumor" right now.
Already bought 26 giftable bundles, just in case they do. I learned my lesson from the last one, could've gotten a lot of TF2 swag if I had bought a bunch of gift codes for a cent each.
interesting video, and this is why i love the Developer commentaries on valve games, it's so great to understand the little details that change the entire game...
Mega Man X is a mediocre game and I don't appreciate the physical and emotional abuse of a character that despite being a robot is also like an eight year old girl.
