So, what is the deal with the option to save and restart the game after completion?
I recently completed the game for the first time with 95% item collection. When presented with the usual option to save and continue, I narrowly avoided deleting my game- and opportunity to get the 100% ending in the next few hours- and didn't save it, thankfully. I also was hoping  to start a new game on hypermode and play through that too, but when I went to start a new game the hypermode difficulty wasn't there. So, would I be correct in thinking that to get all the items, I have to not save after completing it, and to play hypermode without deleting my 'item-collecting' game I'd have to copy over the file and save over it then and restart? Or is there another way around it?
I have no probem copying my game. It just seems a little unfulfilling when, after completing a great game, your progress on the last planet isn't recognised or saved, apart from the message appearing on the message board.
Thread title:
saving at the end of the game allows you to select Hypermode and skip cutscenes, plus you keep all your scans from the previous games. Unfortunately this can only be done when you continue from a completed file, which is completely stupid since if you want to start a new game and you either want to play on Hypermode or if you want to skip cutscenes but don't have a completed file all ready, then too bad.

so yeah, if you want to start a new file on Hypermode you'll need to finish that file; if you don't want to lose it, then copy it to another slot then finish it.

That's exactly what I did. extra_smug

Ok, problem solved. I do think it's a little bit of a cumbersome way of handling things, though I do like that you get to keep your scans. I remember I had to play through the first prime 3 or 4 times before realising it was that flaahgra tentacle that was avoiding my scan visor...

A-B-C epic failure?

i agree that the save system is stupid because it forces you to finish and reuse a file instead of having skippable cutscenes and stuff from a fresh file.

Ack! I knew the "correct" misspelling from the German Simpsons TV show (ICH BIN SO KLUG! ICH BIN SO KLUG! K-L-U-K!", that might explain it. A fault like that still makes me blush though. Embarassed

@ PiccoloCube: No epic failure, it was intended. You just don't watch as much TV as other people. grin new
