So the Japanese FiM dub is a thing and I did not actually expect them to do this.
(current voice verdicts from the very very very small snippets I've heard are that Twilight sounds good, Pinkie somewhat less so)

So the full first episode of the dub is out and of the main character's voices, Twilight is acceptable and Rarity is spot on. The rest do not convince me. Of the non-mains, Granny Smith and Nightmare Moon work well.

So I started playing Lollipop Chainsaw yesterday. Tara Strong does the voice of the main character. The voice she uses for Juliet is very close to Twilight's at times, especially when she goes into annoyed grunts mode. Pretty hard to not hear it.
The occurence of something in the game called "Sparkle Hunting" doesn't help any.

So previously to today, outside of conventions, I've literally never seem anyone with pony merchandise in real life.
But this morning on the bus I saw a (very) cute girl with some sort of pony purse thing who happened to sit next to me but she was too buried in her phone to converse. THEN I saw a very large Asian women with a rainbow dash (fan made) backpack at the art store. AND THENNNN on my way home I saw a neck beard with a derpy hooves shoulder bag.
What the actual fuck? The first time I see anyone with anything pony related and it happens three times in one day.
Still kinda sad the cute girl didn't look up more, I've got a pretty good record so far for wooing the normal Brony girls.

Only time I can remember seeing someone with pony stuff outside of cons and other geek meetups was passing a guy who was wearing a Rainbow Dash hoodie, but it didn't register with me what it was until I had actually passed him so I kind of turned around to confirm wtf it was.
idk if I'd wear any pony shirts or so, but I would wear a pony-related tie. Especially if it was something simple. Like, plain light blue colour, and RD's cutie mark. Or something like that.

And with it comes Japanese Giggle at the Ghostie.
And it's not any good at all. Japanese Pinkie's voice is bad, and she's somehow even worse when singing. Doesn't work. Seriously doesn't work. I assume this is what English Pinkie sounds like to people like tomatobob.
Japanese Celestia is... alright, I guess. Luna only has one line but seems pretty good from that. Japanese Steven Magnet is hilarious, though.
Episode three seems out as well but I can't think of anything that would be worth checking in that. I'm seriously not going to listen to more Japanese Pinkie singing. Might not bother with checking anything else at all in the JP dub until Japanese Art of the Dress happens since it's the best song and Rarity has the best Japanese voice.

So, it's a movie, and it'll be on teh big screen. So, that's a thing.
The good news is that they're actually using the old, good character designs. Twilight doesn't have wings, they don't have retarded hair, and they don't have fucking cutie marks on their faces.
The bad news... well, not much. I'm assuming a shoehorned romance between Twilight and whatshisface, and... I don't understand what they're doing with the others, there's been something said that they're not actually humanized versions of the other ponies but just, well, uh, whatever the fuck. Which would be supremely retarded.
All in all it's much less worse than i imagined so I'm back to being carefully neutral about it.

Also I caught up on the comics and you should read them because they're great. The micro series are weaker, except for Rarity's which is pretty great.
Also next Japanese ponies is Suited for Success but my hopes for Art of the Dress are low because apparently they went the lazy way with Winter Wrap Up and kept it in English. Whelp.

So I haven't watched the new episodes yet but I did just finish watching Equestria Girls and... eh.
Not only was the premise as ridiculous as it's always sounded, it also felt wasted.
So I'm just going to spoiler this up since idk if you doofuses (doofi?) have seen it yet.
So all in all, fairly meh.
I'm going to take this opportunity to re-iterate what I've said before, that the comics really need to be read - at least the main comics, most of the micro-series ones range from mediocre to shitty with the shining exception of Rarity's, which is seriously among the best pieces of FiM media ever (hi, tomatobob), beating out most episodes from all seasons. Hell, if I had to do a sweeping generalization, I'd call the comics better than the show, but the comics mostly builds on the show so it's hard to say if you'd enjoy the comics as much if you hadn't seen the show. And the latest chapter has fucking alicorn Twilight, so, guh. (funny thing is that I wouldn't mind alicorn Twilight as much if it had been explained in a way that made any goddamned sense, if that one episode hadn't been terrible, and she hadn't been made a princess. I'm drifting into bad territories but I do have a theory that could work, which involves That Episode happening in a very different way. But it's poisoned the entire franchise for me because I think about these things way too much.)
Anyway.
The season 4 opener is as usual a two-parter, and both were aired the other day. I'll probably watch one for dinner today and the other for breakfast tomorrow, if there's any downloads of the quality I'm seeking. Which used to be 720p iTunes rips but since I figured out I can watch things from a USB stick through my X360 I can now watch in glorious 1080p (which my computer screen isn't big enough for to be meaningful. But we shall see.).

The school setting is almost completely superfluous. There's nothing about Twilight actually trying to go to school - she just learns how to be human. And that's the best part of the movie. The opening still just makes me twitch from flashbacks of that one goddamned episode, but the thing picks up when she gets to the human world. The segment from that point up until the plot gets in the way is by far the best part of the movie. The best thing about the movie I'd have to say is Pinkie Pie, whose human version has just about as little regard for reality as the pony version. Other than that, the human counterparts felt kind of... underused. I guess there's only so much you can do in a not even 1½ hour long movie, but the 40-ish pages tie-in comic that I just read really did a much better job with the whole setting. Twilight is really made out to be too much of a savior, and I was shaking my head throughout the entire climax.

I don't know what the comics are but I am glad to know they seem to have given rarity her proper due.
