Is there a way to do this without using at least gate glitching?

Far as I can tell it requires gate-glitching into either the top-left Maridia exit (the "Caterpillar Room") or the top right of the room just east of the tube.
Thread title:
Afaik there is only one way into Maridia without breaking the tube, which involves going through the wrecked ship and gate glitching in the room up-right from the tube.

Note that opening gates from the wrong side can only be done if Samus is coming from the right side of it.

If you'd like some tips on doing easy gate-skips:

1. On a gate that opens on the left side, stand Samus directly against the gate on the right side.

2. Tap right and walk very slightly, then turn left. Samus' knee should barely be touching the gate, if at all.

3. Jump and near the celing tap left, then press fire immediately after with a super.

This takes a little while to get used to, but is a thousand times more consistent than running at it from a distance.
Sorry, forgot that just a few posts ago GoldenShadow mentioned this with a video:

Makes me sad that a post from 2 years ago is still on the first page of the SM forum :(

Oh, I see, that means the Red Brinstar Caterpillar Room gate is not an option.

I just now made a couple screenshots showing the "sweet spots" for avoiding bomb Torizo's attacks, for my own reference (since I've been playing too much SMet Arcade), but I could go ahead and post them, lol.

...y'know what, I might as well.  The worst that can happen is a mod yells at me and merges my thread.
blueCrayon, you must have been out of the loop for years regarding Super Metroid, because by now it is rather well-known that this,
''Note that opening gates from the wrong side can only be done if Samus is coming from the right side of it.'' is not true (there's the Pink Brinstar E-Tank gate that is openable with a long-distance Super Missile shot; there's the indirect G-Mode method that involves X-Ray and an R-Tank to prevent a gate from spawning; there's a method using frozen enemies as ground for PAL for the Red Brinstar gate; then a method with a frozen enemy halfway behind a gate; and in hacks there's methods using Grapple-push (Redesign);...), unless you mean the standard GGG close distance Super Missile shot approach, then yes with little speed, it only works from the right side.

To answer this ''Is there a way to do this without using at least gate glitching?'': Yes, with door skip methods and out of bounds travel, this could be done by players unassisted, but this would require more work than necessary, since one could also come from Wrecked Ship via Forgotten Highway to the Plasma beach and then finally to the small room beneath it with the grey shell that blinks once Draygon was killed from where one can use the Ice-Zebetite-skip mechanic and chain it using the respawning refill bugs in the room in order to get deeper and deeper into the grey shell until one triggers the transition. Another option for TAS might be to do a tiny Superjump (not a shinespark) using the bottom right air spikes from the pre-Spazer room and store it on the next higher ground, then go through the doors into glasstube room and unleash the Superjump speed by applying what's called a Rocketjump (and no, I'm not making this up; just watch the current any% TAS by Sniq if you don't believe me).

Yes, I'm surprised that people are still using the Metroid2002 forum for Super Metroid discussions (and seem to expect responses), considering that basically all the SM hacking activity has moved over to the Metroid Construction forums ( http://metroidconstruction.com/ ), and that the SM Speedrunning scene is mostly found on twitch ( https://www.twitch.tv/directory/game/Super%20Metroid ), and that there is 2 Discord servers for those 2 communities (technically there's a few more but not as large) which are very active still to this date.
The MetConst Discord server is this one, if you want to meet and talk to basically all the SM hackers: https://discordapp.com/invite/xDwaaqa
And the SM Speedrunning community's Discord server is this one ( https://discordapp.com/invite/rT2fWZt ) can be found on the main page of the Wiki ( https://wiki.supermetroid.run/Main_Page ) (which the Wiki itself is already a very informative place).

FWIW I first watched SMet speedran(? spedran? spedrun?) over a decade ago (around 2005-ish?), then played it a year or few later, then put it down feeling its controls were wonky compared to ZM's.  (Actually fell in love with the Castlevania series instead.  Never into Zelda, though, for some reason.)

Only a couple months ago did I seriously pick up SMet again and actually start falling in love with it, finally 100%ing it for the first time a week or two ago (2:09, including three embarrassing failed attempts at getting GT's missile pack).

Especially ironic since I used to hang out in the M2K2 IRC over a decade ago.  Heck, the name Red Scarlet even means something to me (the first 100% run I saw, IIRC).  I think Prime was the big thing when I hung around then though.  I eventually got a forum account and then never really used it until now.

But yeah, suddenly hacks like Rotation and Arcade are actually fun for me now, and I've learned where all the items are, and I actually kinda know the SMet map now, and so forth.  And I'm only a decade or two late to the party.  Whee.  And now I have questions about possible routes through the map.

(Next up, learning how to mockball reliably.)

I feel like there should probably be a stickied SM forum topic with this information in it.

They should probably exist for the other games, too.
