Like Scarlet said, this topic is a year old, so please do not make any further posts in here unless you actually have broken the 100% record or have something useful to add to the topic.
Although it was interesting to look back into this topic.
Yeah...it reminded me that I never saw the rest of your 1:00/1:01 run. At the time I found this board and this topic i hadn't yet found everything in the game and so didn't want to watch the full run and spoil the locations. But I did want to see the Murder Beam so I watched just that last segment.
I think you mentioned in the 0:55 commentary that the route was new; is the one in the 1:00 much different? (Yes, I'll see for myself soon, but possibly not for another day or so depending on the state of the connection when I get home.)
My 1:00 used the same 'default' route used in most of the runs in the day. VValentin's 1:07 (probably), my 1:06, smokey's 1:02, my 1:01/1:00, smokey's :58, and smokey's :56 all use the same general route. My :55 was a different route from those..one big reason I had no idea what my time would be until the last part.
Could you explain what the default routes are...cause I really wouldn't like to have to download the other runs...although I could...right now I only have your :55 min run and Smokey's :36 min run...for entertainment whenever I get INCREDIBLY bored...so could you?
Oh and I don't use glitches or mockball...so I don't get the super missles early...I fight Spore Spawn and I get the powerbombs early by wall jumping all the way up brinstar depths and to the area with the elevator that leads back to Crateria...

Don't know if that's a good or bad thing..
Area/main Itemwise..the old route I used for my 1:00 and 1:06, and that smokey used for his :56, :58, 1:02 differentiate from my :55 in 2 areas pretty much.
So the other way goes to Middle Norfair early, does Brinstar cleanup from a different starting point (by the early Supers), and does Crateria cleanup at the end, while my :55 route does Crateria cleanup after the Wrecked Ship, then does Brinstar cleanup from a different starting point (next to the Morph Ball), and goes to Middle Norfair on the way to Lower Norfair after going through Maridia.
Crateria(Morph ball, one missle, bombs, energy tank)>Brinstar(Kill sporespawn, missle, charge beam, missile, power bomb, missile, power bomb, Spazer)>Maridia>Brinstar(Kraid, missile,Varia Suit, energy tank)>Norfair(Hi-Jump Boots, Missile, energy tank, missile, missile, speedboost, missile, wave beam, missile, missile, reserve tank, missile, ice beam, missile, energy tank, missile, missile, grapple beam, missile, missile)>Brinstar>Maridia>Brinstar(X-Ray)>Crateria(Save, Missile)>Wrecked Ship(missile, Phantoon kill, super missile, super missile, Energy tank, missile)>Crateria(missile, missile)>Wrecked Ship(missile, reserve tank, Gravity suit)>Crateria(missile, Save)
I'll finish it later...I have to go now...class has ended...*nods*
(By the way...I'm incredibly bored...so I felt like being super detailed)
Edit: (Continuing my super detailed run explanation because I'm so incredibly bored in my second period and it kills time)
Crateria({right after save I should have a super jump charged from the run to my ship so I diagonal super jump to the right} Powerbomb, {horizontal super jump to the left after falling off cliff} e-tank, missle, missle)>Brinstar(missle, reserve, missile, missile, super missle, e-tank, super missle, power bomb, missile, power bomb, e-tank, e-tank)>Crateria(power bomb, missile, e-tank, missile, missile, missile, super missile, missile, Save)
What's bad about that explanation? I don't remember when each expansion is gotten, that's what the videos are for. You asked for route, not items gotten, and exactly when (which I get some items at a different time than smokey), and I'm not watching 3 videos for someone to tell them that shit.
Don't ask me for help then, if you're going to be a lazy rudeass after my answer. Getting Power Bombs in Brinstar before going to Kraid is rather stupid..you should pass on that to save a couple of minutes. But I'm not helpful and explain badly.
Geez...you made it seem like I insulted you horribly...I understand it...it's just lacking the information I wanted...sorry...I didn't mean to sound rude or any such stuff...and I did say it helps...
Why does waiting for later to get the power bombs save time? Hmm...seems to me that it allows you to get a few items before hand...I mean it sure does make a few things easier...although it isn't required to have grapple to get into the wrecked ship...I never use it to get in...*grumbles* I'm just making things difficult aren't I...sorry...I can't help it...
You asked for route, and I supplied it (and it was actually difficult to remember the old route). You didn't ask when all 100 items are picked up, which I would probably not even get those right for my :55, especially not in my 1:00 and smokey's :56 runs.
You asked for route, I gave it to you, and that didn't help. It was what you asked for.
Going all that way for those PB's is slow, because you're going to be going that way anyway on the way to the Wrecked Ship, so it's just excess backtracking if you do it, then go down, and then come back up that way anyway a little bit later.
Crateria(Morph ball, one missle, bombs, energy tank)>Brinstar(Kill sporespawn, missle, charge beam, missile, power bomb, missile, power bomb, Spazer)....
Crateria(Morph ball, one missle, bombs, energy tank)>Brinstar(Kill sporespawn, missle, charge beam, missile, power bomb, missile, power bomb, Spazer)....
You kill spore spawn?
*gasps in horror*
I can't NOT kill spore spawn, seeing as how I can't even do a mockball.
Me and my brother always do glitchless runs...we are both fully capable of doing mockball at will...but we choose not to...not too sure why though...
By the way...I didn't say it didn't help...it did...as I have a picture of where you go...I just don't really know what you mean because I can't see it well enough...not a problem with what you said...just a problem for myself...that's why it didn't help much...you took too much offense in what I said...I said that it wasn't a very good explanation because of what I was hoping for...although what I was hoping for was not what I asked for...I see that now...your explanation did shed some light on the difference though...and it seems a pretty big difference to me...Oh and the power bomb thing...I see what you mean...it is slow...and you are right...you are gonna have to go back up there...and then back down...but I was looking at it in the way of the sooner you are getting the items the quicker it is...instead of going through a straight forward path and getting things as you are near them...*nods*
... I know who is responsible for this... for this... marring of such a great language. I know who caused this: it was the French: the Gauls, vile barbarians despoiling the great Latin language and its Greek origins... shame on them for this despicable corruption! I shall have my revenge by means of Zip -> Stab before this day is out...
AFAIK, the plural of "comma" is either "commas" or "commata." And the plural of "semicolon" is just "semicolons," although the plural of "colon" can be "cola." But I definitely could be wrong.
Back on topic, glitchless runs can be really fun to do, and they show how good a player is at actually playing the game as it was intending, rather than "bending the game" (although, I still prefer to bend the game).
