I'm planning on doing a Normal Any% Speed Run. I want something that will possibly beat Luke's 28:50 speed run of it. Or any other persons speed run. I would like to know the fastest routes to take like for Ex. (skipping acid worm battle, MB shinespark) So, does anyone have any ideas i can use for my run?

good luck. my run has all the "newest" tricks; you can feel free to work on something better.
Im SURE i wont do better than you. But i can probably get a time like 30:xx.-40:xx If i know ALL the speed tricks, and plus the horrible skill that i have at speed running, but i do hope i get a good time to be in a ranking like you and Aj, so i can get a good reputation at speed running or something

if speed running is not intrinsically fun to you, i would suggest not trying. don't do it for some "reputation". i don't even care about that.

if it is fun though, by all means.
I CAN speed run. But pulling off those crazy tricks you did in your WR run, will be impossible. I also think speed running is fun to me too. I can do it, but just not as good as you or AJ. Since AJ set the 10% Hard and you pulled off the 28:50 WR speed run
lol no way
Heh, just don't burn out man, like I have (over four times).

it's too bad you and i do different stuff. we could push the hell out of each other.

if you plan it and reset after every single mistake, you WILL beat a 38:xx time.

Thats my time without really planning anything. :P

yeah, that was what i had in mind. I dont want it to be a single segment because i would make ALOT of mistakes. Such as the acid worm skip, nailing down those single wall jumps just right. And especially the fast Kraid kill with 4 super missles. The bad thing is i dont have a VCR to record my run, so sometime next week im gonna either go to my friends house and record it, or just borrow it. Pray for me when i start on it
lol no way
Kraid only needs 3 super missiles... as long as you're running at him while you fire them, it should not be a problem really at all.
3? I thought it was 4. Well, it doesnt matter, as long as i keep firing at him, while running, i can kill him in at least 3 seconds. Im probably going to start on it next week. So i have to know almost all the tips and speed tricks. Going to study for the run know...
I wish you luck man, I've been trying to beat lukes 28:XX  but I can't skip  the acid worm.  If I could I may be able to beat it because my best time so far is 30:56.  Unfortunatly I could only take a picture since I don't have gamecube so It wouldn't be a sda record, just a personal record.
yea, the acid worm skip is tough for me too. It takes me about 4 times to get that double bom jump down on that last block. My current fastest time is 34:23. And that is my 4th time i beat my practice run. Im going to start the real thing sometime tomorrow or this weekend. I dont have a VCR to record it but im going to my friends house to do it. Wish me luck. Im gonna need it to beat Lukes World Record.

Well, good luck, then.  But, just a couple of things to throw out there (just my own opinions and personal experiences):
...
1.  If you've never recorded yourself playing before, it will take some time to get used to the feeling.  It's one thing to pull off difficult tricks when nobody is watching.  BUT... turn on a VCR and pop in a tape, and all of a sudden you feel pressure that you didn't before.  Every time you make even a tiny mistake, you feel that it's a horrible blunder, because you know others will be watching it later.  Eventually you get over this, but it will make your run more difficult at first.
...
2.  34 minutes and 23 seconds is a very, VERY good time.  Only 5:33 off the world record.  Much better than my fastest MZM run.  But, in my humble opinion this still leaves you WAAAAAY behind transience.  The further away from a WR you are, in any game, the easier it is to drop time.  But, as you approach the near-perfection of a WR run, it becomes exponentially harder to improve the time.  Going from 40:00 down to 35:00 will seem easy, compared to going from 35:00 to 30:00.  And, THAT will seem easy compared to going from 30:00 to 28:49.
...
3.  Earlier you said this: "but i do hope i get a good time to be in a ranking like you and Aj, so i can get a good reputation at speed running or something".  Don't worry about your reputation.  That's not why you should speed run.  Do it for fun, and for the challenge of improving your skills.  If you turn in a good run, you'll get respect from the gaming community whether or not it's a world record time.  You also see people who get much respect from a gaming community, who have never submitted any kind of run, or invented any tricks, because they are friendly, helpful, curious members who keep discussion going.

Good luck with your run.  Make sure you have fun doing it.  If you don't, then you're better off spending your time some other way.  Life's too short.  Wink

i would go one step farther - the difference from 28:50-35:00 is probably as far apart as 35:00-50:00. it is relatively easy to get into the 30's by simply knowing where to go and making a minimal amount of mistakes, but to get into the 20's takes near perfection. my run has a bunch of mistakes in it, but i still think it's very good and would take serious effort to break. i might work on it soon.
I have to agree on the 35:00 being the upper limit there. My first (and only) any% run I clocked in with 35:xx (don't remember exact time right offhand, I think it was 40 something seconds) and it grabbed extra items, had loads of mistakes, etc.
I've gotten my time down to 30:06, but Im going to stop now, the game is no longer fun for me now.  After nearly 43 runs through the game I'm starting to get sick of it.  I guess the only thing I could do would be skipping the acid worm, but I can't.  I suppose I've reached my personal limit on this game.  I hope to try again some day though, but I dont suppose it will happen soon.
30:06 without the acid worm skip Shocked  8)

Doesn't the acid worm skip save more than 76secs? If yes, you would have beaten Transcience's time or am I wrong?
Acid worm scip saves, well I dunno, I suppose it would vary from person to person, considering that it make take some people longer killing the acid worm/skipping it than others.

And yes, I am 76 second away from being equal to lukes time.

It's only like that because I did it in 4 saves and didnt allow any errors.  Its the absolute best I have without skipping the worm.

yeah, assuming you are telling the truth, that would likely break my time. you should make a video so i can see what kind of stuff you are doing, cause i am curious.

your not the only one

30.06 without Acid worm skip. This is really good time because my single segment time is 34.56 with acid worm route.

Why you don,t skip Acid worm battle? this boss is easy skip segmented run, but huge risk skip SS run.
I didn't know that Graveworm said that he finished the game in 28:46 Shocked
Though, since there isn't any proof and there will never be, it will forever remain a time.

I'm shuting the flickerbat up, talking about Graveworm isn't a very good idea...
nah, talking about graveworm isn't bad. it's graveworm talking about anything that's bad.

ahh, graveworm. there's nothing like tarnishing a large accomplishment (sub-29) by claiming it was legit (on an sp) and linking to an emulator screenshot, deleting it a day later. i will miss you, my friend.

for this reason, rain, few will believe you because you lack the proof to back up an extraordinary claim, especially after graveworm. this isn't to say that i think you're full of crap, but there is the element of doubt there. you should see what you can do regarding recording.
