Welp, I just finished off the last quest. Ended up siding with the Institute. The ending was... kinda abrupt. I was expecting a little more honestly. Oh well, at least it's not a hard stop like Fallout 3, you can go straight back into the game world. I think I have all of the side quests cleared though, so there's not much to do besides settlement building and radiant quests. I will be back for DLC for sure though.

i'm actually just getting back to it after about a week without playing, since i was at my parents'. i'm almost level 60 and just now starting on the glowing sea quest. still have a ton of the map to explore (mostly the south and southeast), so i don't think i'll be finished any time soon. just snapped up two sets of x-01 power armor today, which i hear is the best type. time to finally start upgrading ;)

Yeah, X-01 is the absolute best power armor. If has the highest durability and can get all the mods. It MIGHT drain power cores faster, I'm not 100% sure on that. It does take more resources to repair though, that I do know.

thankfully i've been focusing on getting aluminum, so i should be able to build all the upgrades i want. just need to get that science rank 4 ...

i hear there's a pair of boots that negate all fall damage which you can only get with a jetpack

Yeah, at the top of the Mass Fusion building. I haven't made the attempt yet but the process looks nutty.

heh i just did it, and i'm now resetting for the best grade. the jumps aren't too bad at all if you have experience with metroid prime. took me about 4 tries each. ;)
red chamber dream
oh shit there's some with rad damage protection

Score.

Just got the game.  It's cool and everything but I can already tell I'm going to hate managing settlements.  Someone please tell me I can just ignore that part of the game entirely.
red chamber dream
you totally can. i recommend having at least one that's sort of built up, but even that's not an absolute necessity

you can let them get attacked and whatnot as much as you want, afaik. just means you fail the random missions to save them

Yeah, there's no penalty for not building up settlements.

For the least amount of hassle, use the Red Rocket as your base. You get it right away, it's small, it has no default population, and has all the necessary work areas already built.

Yeah, I do like the idea of customizing a base and building crafting stations, custom housing, etc for the sake of function.  But I really don't want to turn the whole experience into Sim City Wasteland Edition.

Also, Deathclaws got legitimately frightening.  Thought that minigun was gonna make that mission effortless, but...

Enemies got improved across the board. Humans will take cover now, and just wait until you see ghouls.

It was only a matter of time.

finally finished building my beastly house. chose starlight drive-in because of all the space, and built a 4-story wooden building with a top-floor deck that goes over that small pond in the middle of the settlement, where i have a large water purifier. it looks pretty pretty fucking rad. up on the deck i've got a garage with a shit load of power armor all lined up, tony stark style. ;)

the only thing that sucks is the space limit on consoles. i've already hit it, and i eventually want to add a bridge up to that big ass billboard thing, so i'm probably gonna have to make the house a lot smaller :(

You can use the scrapping exploit on consoles. It'll just take a lot of caps to buy up a bunch of weapons and time to drop and scrap them all, unfortunately.
red chamber dream
how does it work?

Just drop an item out of your inventory on to your settlement and scrap it (or store it) using workshop mode. The game will think part of the settlement has been removed and decrease the size bar. Guns are worth, like, a pixel though, so you gotta be dedicated.
red chamber dream
ah, it actually removes more than i thought it would. wow, this isn't too bad. wish they'd patch it with a much higher limit, though.

rotfl. i love the uss constitution mission. i used a jetpack to get onto the ship as it was taking off, and after it did it crashed into a nearby building, i huess because of the weight of my power armor? it was pretty funny

Haha, that quest is amazing. It always crashes though.
red chamber dream
oh i heard the captain's dialog when i reloaded my save, then opened my pip boy and it sounded like it was successful. guess that's just his programming lol
red chamber dream
the crash was crazy though, i thought the game had frozen just before the ship hit the building - the loading indicator was spinning for like a minute

then everything exploded and i immediately died haha

That's fantastic.
