I imagine the battle would go lower, and Kraid would be fully immersed in the lava... there'd be lower platforms against the right wall in the lava, and you probably have powergrip too. Either that or the lava WAS shallow, and Kraid busted through the cieling.
He probably would have come up through the floor, the acid would probably have been there already, jumping out of deep acid without the Gravity Suit is really annoying so I doubt that Nintendo would force you to do so.
Am I the only one that doesn't consider that screenshot bad looking? I bet it's because of all the colorful and comic-like World of Warcraft I've been playing lately.
I think I already said that I don't like it, and Nate thinks it would've made for a better game... I agree with him actually. The places seen in the early videos for the game were amazing, particularly the misty crateria-like place... dunno if anyone remembers that. There were also enemies that didn't make it into the final game... and it's really disappointing too. What they were making looked nothing like the MZM we got, it looked much better. I still want to explore the places shown in those videos... alas, we probably won't ever get another 2d metroid that has these kind of graphics, if at all. That's really sad.
but I like that kraid more than the one that actually made it into the game (kraid has and always been one ugly rapscallion, so more ugly is more better) I would have loved to have had that room to be kraid's boss room. it's just wishful thinking here, but that would have had made kraid a lot harder, and seeing as zero mission was a remake, I ahve no idea why they put super metroid kraid in this game. I would have preferred REAL kraid from the original metroid as he has been one of the hardes bosses to fight for me. ever.
What is really weird is the fact that most magazines here in Sweden used that picture in their review of the game. Wtf? Come to think of it, most pictures of ZM that I saw before I got it for myself was from the beta :)
I also think the fight would be too easy because you didn't have to jump to hit Kraid's mouth, but just crouch and button-mash the B button while holding R.

In Super PLAY's review of Metroid Prime, they also used old screenshots. A pic of Flaaghra where the player had all beams and visors, and it was the "old" visor icons. And then there's of course the one with Wave beam on the frigate...
