BREAKING: Metroid Pack-In Game Included With The DS
Along with the exciting DS news sprouting in the gaming circuit comes another juicy news tidbit.

Japanese game giant Nintendo announced Tuesday that its forthcoming DS (short for Dual Screen) portable game system will launch in the United States on Nov. 21 for a retail price of \$149.99.

"Nintendo's price will include a pack-in game called Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt as well as PictoChat, communications software that lets users send messages and drawings to each other."
"We're really excited about the price," says Nintendo vice president of marketing and corporate affairs Perrin Kaplan. "That kind of pricing makes DS immediately attractive to the mass market, and that is where Nintendo needs to be."

With Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt being added as a pack-in game along with PictoChat, the anticipation for the DS grows stronger. (gwd)

I found this over at nintendojo. I didn't think the DS would be coming so soon, or so cheap. And with MP hunters, and picto chat, this is definantly going to be on my X-mas list.
Thread title:
It's Metroid Prime Hunters: Sub Hunt. That may not be the full version... Let us pray.
Actually, I did expect it to be around $150.  But I never would've imagined that it would come with both PictoChat and MP:H.
here's the official release from nintendo. the hunters part appears to be unconfirmed, though here's another source that talks about it.
What luck, there's french fry stuck in my beard.
Well w00t w00t.  Can't wait for the DS now.
Does anybody know if this one is strictly multiplayer, or does it have a single player section that I haven't heard of yet? Cause that kinda kills the value of the game for me if it was just multi.

But hey, being bundled with the DS saves me the extra cost, since I know that I would eventually get Hunters anyway  Wink
This is an update:

Update: According to NOA representatives at today's teleconference, Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt is an abbreviated version of the full game (which will release at a later date), but will allow for 4-player local wireless play right out of the box. Will wi-fi gaming be available in Nintendo's own DS games? Stay tuned.
lol no way

Agreed.

The newest screen shot of Metroid Prime Hunters is here.

If you're wondering, it's a pic of the alternate control scheme for the game, where you don't use the touch screen to shoot.  Instead, you use buttons.  Though it seems you'll change to missiles and use the Morph Ball with the touch screen, though (check out the symbols on the map screen).

This is the screen that's got me pumped for this game.
i read it thinking it would be the full game... I was really pumped and now that i know its only a demo-ish version it makes me not so happy. I don't like spending lots of money on portable systems especially because i dont usually play Gameboy.. so i'm not really too excited about this news... however DS is cheaper than i thought it would be.
Not sure I see why that would make a difference.  If you're interested in playing the full game you'd need to get a DS sooner or later anyway...and if you're not planning on getting one then it doesn't matter how much of a game comes packed in with it.

I was already planning on getting a DS simply because it seems to combine the positives of both models of GBA to me and I want to see what can be done with it, so any associated Metroid game is purely a bonus, regardless of format.  Of course, as soon as I heard about this I also heard about a Japanese triforce-edition gold SP set to be released with Minish Cap, straining my determination to not get an SP...sigh.  I already have two GBAs and a Player; I don't need an SP and DS both.
From what I've seen, that's a mighty big HUD change.
lol no way
I agree, but it looks cool... also good to hear they confirmed the alternate control scheme, now my friends can stop bitching at me about how much it's gonna suck. As though it's my fault. Stupid Medal Of Honor bitches.

Aww, great. Now I have to get this too.

GreenMamba, that screenie was dangerous for my economy.
What luck, there's french fry stuck in my beard.
It's what I do best. 8)
Yes it is.
What luck, there's french fry stuck in my beard.
That's dangerous for you eyes, not your economy.

But seriously, back on topic, please...
Woot!  DS is coming soon!  Woot!

I hope Hunters will have a single-player mode, but I somehow doubt it. I really dislike completely multiplayer games where the only objective is to shoot other players (actually, I dislike multiplayer games, period). But I don't know...it IS Metroid, after all.
There will be a single-player mode in Metroid Prime Hunters. It is not, however, in Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt, which is the demo release that'll come with the DS.

Okay, thanks elyscape. That relieves me quite a bit. Will the single player mode be like the multiplayer mode, only against the computer, or like Prime?
Single player mode will have some form of story. Think like Metroid Prime, except... on the DS, and somewhere else in the timeline. Yeah.
What luck, there's french fry stuck in my beard.
Actually, I think I heard that the single player mode is much different from a normal Metroid game.  Like, mission based.  But don't quote me on that.

Well, from what I'm hearing, I'm sure it's gonna be really cool. I doubt I'll be playing the multiplayer mode at all, in that case.
